Computer not working

When I plug in the computer (the power button is unresponsive), the caps/num/scroll lock lights on my keyboard light up breifly and the monitor "knows" it is plugged in (instead of saying "check signal cable", it enters sleep mode). However, nothing comes up on the monitor and pressing the caps lock button on my keyboard, the indicator light stays off. The only response I have been able to get is the following sequence of beeps:
3 short - 3 short - 3 short - 1 long

In the past, and unresponsive monitor could be fixed by re-fitting the video card, but this does not work now and the keyboard had worked then.

The computer had frozen increasingly often leading up to the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Check your motherboard manual for those beep codes. Seems to me like something got fried.

Yup, I agree. The beeps mean something, and the manual for your motherboard or computer will tell you exactly what's wrong. It can range from something as trivial as your CMOS battery needing replacing to your first boot hard disk having irrecoverably lost all the data it contained, or as said above, a component having been fried. Although serious stuff can happen out of the blue, you needn't worry, it is hopefully something that can be fixed without too much hassle.

If you don't know where to find your manual, give us your computer manufacturer and model/serial number so we can find it on the internet somewhere.
