A significant part of the art of painting had always been colour and shading. However with 3d modelling programs (iirc they use fractals?) shading is done automatically, and naturally. Definately painting isnt only about lighting and shades, source of light and movement of light, but it would seem that this very important part of generic painting is outdated with paint programs.

In your view could art made using 3d programs ever take the place of traditional painting? And would the fact that anyone can paint using a 3d program make it less of an art-form?

As an absolute amateur i made this painting (it is in reality a 3d model) in little more than 15 minutes, using Google Sketchup. Whereas i wouldnt position it next to works by Munch it seems possible that had i spend a few hours on it i could make it resemble various expressionist styles.

I like the scene. Nice work! It's emotionally affecting. What is in the tower? Who is the man walking? Where is he going?

I'm all for technology. I would imagine that some artists enjoy calculating the angle of the shadows themselves, just as some mathamaticions actually enjoy doing calculations without the aid of computers.

Ty Narz :D
I think that this paint program will help me with my literature too, since it is so easy to just paint a scene. Whereas the first painting was mostly expressionistic, here is a more surreal one, with a vast maze-world, and a dead-end (what is the person looking at, and walking towards to? ) ;)

This is a sort of "final room", as in some old amstrad platform games.
