My computer has been acting up recently since I attempted to install one of the visaul basic things(cancled it) soon afterwards my computer started having problems, first when I took my computer out of standby mode the blue screen of death came up and forced me to restart the computer and which point the MB failed to dectect my HD and took several restarts to get it detected, then my CPU randomly goes to 100% for about 30 seconds, and my computer is now taking 2 minutes to boot up, and to cap it all off civ3 will no longer load any saves ( i started a game today left to go to work came back and the save wouldn't load. C3c just stops responding). I unistalled 1 of the two things I installed(.net framework 2.0 left in windoows installer 3.1), I've ran an anti-virus program and several anti spyware scans but all were clean. Now I have an system restore point from the 6th of this month but I would rather use that as a last resort. Does anyone know what is wrong with my computer? As I want to play civ.:(

First check Event Viewer (Start>Run eventvwr.msc) and see if he's showing anything.

The problems detecting the HDD on boot worry me a bit though. See if your BIOS has a built-in function to test the HDD, if it does run it. Enable SMART if it happens to be turned off.

No. No errors were recorded for yesterday which is when this all happened and the warnings that were recorded were well after the time it happened. And on the day before all the errors recorded dealt with my internet connection.

An input/output (I/O) request to a memory-mapped file failed and the operation was retried.

Only warning recorded yesterday, after I was asleep.

Worry you? Stopped my heart when I saw that the pri master drive wasn't detected. BIOS doesn't have a HD test function. SMART is enabled and a program I have says the health status of the HD is 75%(was 74% yesterday). The HD will boot now, it just takes a really long tim on the windows logo screen(like a minute). The problem detecting the HD on boot was only after the BSOD. I shut down the computer restarted but it still didn't detect it so I went out on a limp and checked the cables but they were fine and in tight after that I booted again and the HD was detected.
