About my new computer: if I install Vista, how easy it is to move everything from XP to it?
 
I think you can get a double-male USB and connect the two PCs directly, and vista has an option for this.

3. DVI is what it is in any context. It means Digital Video Out. TV-out probably means that it has an svideo or hdmi out.
5. Yes, if you only have an AGP port on your motherboard, dont buy a new video card for it, save up and get a new pc. AGP is a dead technology now ( not dying, dead)

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm getting rusty, dammit), but I think if you don't wipe the HDD first, the Vista will put everything into Windows.old.
 
I get the impression from the article that it won't settle for that. However, I feel that the author has little frame of perspective toward doing a clean install and reacts like you need a screwdriver and a calculator to do the install (anyone done such an install ;)). Anyway, I like ms' comment that it hardly matters anyway because old computers aren't likely to be worth upgrading.

On the wizard, which looks like the XP files and settings transfer wizard, I find that most people aren't helped by it. It talks about old computers and 'is this your new computer' etc but when they only have one computer, it's time to take it to the shop. Good luck, ms.
 
I'm thinking about getting a new computer in a few months after I start working. A brand new laptop would be nice, but maybe a desktop? I can't decide. Which would be better & why?

And I have some time to kill atm, so I'd like to improve my photoshopping skills. How would I best go about it? The guide from Adobe didn't help much.

Purposes? Desktops generally better for gaming. Laptops are portable which make them good for business ('though I read somewhere that most laptops are gotten for their portability then left on the desk all day).
 
Honestly, how much will you end up moving the laptop around? And how much gaming do you want to do?

If you're only gonna play games like civ, want some portability, then one laptop you can take a look at is the MSI EX625. 16" notebook that weighs less than most 15.4" (around 5.5lb with brick), its decently powerful and has a nice video card. Battery life is a wee bit short ( 2 hours on normal usage) but you can expect that with a dedicated GPU. Its also pretty nicely priced at 750$, with specs that can beat some 1000$ notebooks. I know this sounds like and advertisement, but this is the notebook I have and my only complaint about it is the fact that the display is extremely glossy. If that doesnt put you off, its a great notebook. Just a note, I got my laptop with the P7350 which is slightly more powerful than the T6400 CPU, but less powerful than the P8600.

Laptops do have their place but I think you need to be clear on what you really need because you will get more performance for your money with a desktop. Power consumption/heat generation and the need for small size and weight make the laptop more expensive and/or less of a performer.
 
It's me again: if I install XP to the new computer, which is the best/easiest way to move my stuff to it?

I've got a new question: My friends laptop were flashing at about frequency of 20 seconds, it went dim like the battery were low, but she had powerchord on. When she took it off, the flashing stopped. What could be cause of this?
 
Did you notice if the laptop was switching between ac and battery power in windows power management? If so, it seems like the AC connector is funky. If not, the DC board might be dying.
 
Probably something obvious:

So I was using CamStudio to record myself giving the barbarians nukes in Civilization IV. Everything went fine up until I launched the game, then all I got was a black screen with the cursor jumping around.

Any idea?
