Computer Roll Call

I don't understand why people would still have a desktop these days. You have to sit at a desk to play or basically do anything. I wouldn't get anything done if I couldn't mod from my couch. If you don't play anything requiring high end graphics (shooters and the like), there's really no point.

It is about money and time. Laptop needs to be replaced every two years while desktop every 5 year. Also performance good laptop cost about as much as average desktop so it is more expensive as well.

The money reason is why I don't have a desktop. I need a laptop for my study anyway. One good laptop is cheaper than a mediocre laptop and a good desktop.

I'm lucky, because my university has a laptop arrangement. I got a very good laptop for a very low price. I would very likely not be able to get a desktop with the same performance for the same price.

And a major benefit of the laptop is that you can play everywhere you want. I can play at the university if I want to, which you can't with a desktop.

I hate laptop keyboards (too small), can't stand trackpads, and like having larger monitors that are higher than the keyboard, and rarely have time to actually play outside of home anyway (smartphone covers Internet access for everywhere else).

Okay, maybe I just never need to replace my hardware until it breaks, because I just don't play current AAA titles anymore.

I solve this by having an external keyboard, a mouse and holder that keeps my screen (which is large enough (1920x1080)) at eye level when I'm home.

When I'm not home, like at the university, I don't have them. But the keyboard of my laptop isn't smaller than an external keyboard and I have my mouse with me.

I'm dong fine with a tablet and a desktop, but to each their own I guess. As long as it's not Apple I can't really judge other people for their personal preferences and needs.

Exactly my thoughts. It is more expensive to buy a high-end laptop compared to equal specs on a desktop, but the mobility and flexibility is well worth it.

If you are playing Dawn of Civilization in 2015, it should not be difficult to buy an appropriate laptop that can make it run. The most useful peripheral is a mouse.

Full disclosure: I am writing this from my reclining chair.

Neither do I but I simply love 1960x1080 resolution and high graphics on civ4.

I always play on the highest settings as well.

Same here, although there were some difficulties to launch Civ4 on Windows 10 (you have to download the 3.19 patch, else it wouldn't even start).
