Congo & Rwanda peace deal : A great step forward.

Nice thing about this deal was it was brokered by South African president err... Mbeki (I hope). Hopefully some sort of regional peace agreement can be followed by other regional agreements based on that good faith.

And thankfully Botswana wasn't dragged into the war :goodjob:

 No new posts in this topic?
Yeah, why celebrate this peace-deal,
after all the question about which ketchup is better is more important, right?

Don't get all worked up. :) The thing is most people are more interested in food than in some forgotten conflict somewhere over the ocean.

Peace is good esp for Congo where millions had died in the chaos. But will it last? A few other African nations also maintain troops in Congo to continue exploitation of that land. Any permanent peace must involve all these plus all the different factions within the country, which is a tall order.

And some ppl called Korea 'forgotten war'...

Korea is old, half a century ago but Congo is now. ;) Ask people and most will give you a blank stare. It really is forgotten or people choose to 'forget' it.

I think the fact that the evil genocidal jews killed 2500 palestinians in 3 years is a bit more important than the 2,5 million that were killed in the Congo in the last 5 years

Moderator Action: warned for threadjacking and trolling, (even though intended as a sacastic jab at the disproportianal interest in the conflicts, the disruptive effects were predictable. Lefty

FLAME-WAR! FLAME-WAR! FLAME_WAAAR!.. Not.

Go to a street in London, and ask 50 random people who are Tutu's & Hutsi's.
How many of them will know the answer?

Well, a lot of them will think a tutu is something ballet dancers wear, but a surprising number might remember the Hutus and the Tutsis, as the Rawandan conflict was quite well reported over here, and those are not names you forget easily.

It would be fabulous if this ended the slaughter, but I doubt it will. There have been numerous cease fires and accords in the past, but none have held. I see no reason why this should be different. Naturally, I hope I'm wrong.

Peace deal? In Africa?

Consider me a bit cynical, but this deal will only last until the next coup d'Etat. Tomorrow, maybe?

Peace now in Zaire??? Now that the Ruandese millitary is making billion's with the exploitation or even plundering of Zaire's most resource rich territory's? Now that the Zairese president has lost most of his power? Now that the ruandese have just to kick the diamond's ,gold and platina out of the soil?I don't think so...

I think this peace deal won't last longer than the rule of pope John Paul the first. (not the second ,he's still going for it)

Hutu death sqaud's my ass ,just a cheap premisis to plunder one of the naturaly richest regions of the world. You don't need to capture a region 20 times bigger that youre own country just to protect yourself against incursion's.

really cool guy. This comment really represents your knowledge about the subject, effiently making
your whole point absurd and laughable.

First off, there's no place such as 'Zaire'. It changed it's name in the last century.

Peace deal was with RUANDA and CONGO. There's still 6 more similar peace deals to go to achieve peace.

really cool guy.
