Conquest of the World

As soon as his computer starts working again. :p

Hello, everyone. Great story, Quintillus. I've been reading off-and-on for a couple of months now, and just starting to get back into Civ. Just one question: When the Ottomans ask you for the Alliance, why do they say "treat," instead of "threat"?
Anyway, although my favorite civs are either gone or nearly so (Germans, Celts, Russians), I've been rooting you on for a while now. And remember: When enemy bees block out the sun, hug in the shade!

Typo in the game code, perhaps? Quintillus tinkering with the script? (Wouldn't be the first time . . .)

Beautiful story as always. The Greeks are now my favorite Civ. I started a Regent game with them, although not on a world map, and pwned pretty badly. I'm not first in score, but I control a most of the larger continent and am in the process of finishing off resistance. On the other continent, the Ottomans have more than 250 Infantry, but my army--exactly 120 tanks, about 80 mech infantry, 80 bombers, and around 100 artillery--will be victorious when the time comes.

Listen to me, rattling on about my own glory when you're conquering the world, and telling the story damn well.

My hat's off to you.

*EDIT* This is directed at Quintillus, of course.

@ChaosArbiter and JDallison: That's a problem with a txt file, which is also present in one of the SOTD's.

Happy Halloween, Everybody! We need smilies themed for holidays other than Christmas...

You forgot  and

@Quintillus: I have been playing your game for a while now. I think I will stop with that, though. Every time you write an update, I keep thinking: "Didn't I capture that city 5 turns ago", "Are they still in the game?", etc.

Got a bit of free time after my exam this morning. Nice video. I didn't think my Spartan defense description was that graphic - and after all, most of my Hoplites ate with their families that night, not in Heck! I suppose reading Gates of Fire and then general American fascination with Thermopylae and Sparta in general makes bloody Hoplite battles seem calm - well, not calm, but something you here about fairly often.

If that battle was too PG-13/R rated, it's certainly a good thing I didn't take a first-person point of view, as told from a Spartan fighting in the battle!

I've been trying to strike a balance between a PG-rated story and detailed adventure, and I'd venture the balance is very much towards PG. The Greek general cursed at the Indians once in the Battle of Delhi (what he said then is unknown - maybe he even cursed them by casting a spell :o) - but other than that we've been entirely language-free (not even a heck). A bit of violence - well, yeah, but you get that in any Civ game. I think if you're a CivFanatic, you expect there to be some fighting. Especially in a thread called "Conquest of the World". :). This isn't, "100% Peaceful No Military One City Cultural Victory."

Welcome to CFC, ChaosArbiter and Brianung. [party] You've evidently been here awhile, but you deserve a welcome nonetheless. And welcome to the thread, Lexicus!

Praha: I've never played a save from a story. I imagine it is rather confusing. I'm sure you're progressing faster, too - even if our available time were equal, you'd be saving a lot of time not writing updates.

Indeed, the Babylonian "threat/treat" was a typo. I didn't even notice it. Maybe I should tinker with the script so it's back to the way it's supposed to be? Glad to see everyone's still being attentive to detail.

Yeah especially considering that the SOTD I mentioned that had that typo, SOTD #146, is dated September 8th. :p

But, maybe it is a Halloween Easter Egg, but the game has a screwy timer? Wouldn't be the first time, my calculator still swears that its 14:37, 31 October, I dunno why? Heck, I don't even know why I have it set to DD.MM, when I live in the American Mid-West!!!

Kudos to Quintillus for being able to post during College, especially after the horror stories I've heard from my parents:eek:.

Well, here's to knowing what secrets lie beyond the next few turns:yeah:

quint, you have gotten me addicted to 31-civ world map no corruption. After a diplo win as America in late 20th century (conquered Africa, Scandinavia, North Europe, and all of America but the Celts, in the Brazillian start position, and they were next, along with western australia [taken all but one inland city in one turn of naval invasions] Indonesia/New Guinea, and parts of Asia, as well as greenland), I started a game as Persia in China, conquering all my neighbours and winning a cultural vic that i forgot to turn off, then I started a game as the ottomans, yet to finish, but I am WAY ahead in tech, conquered all of South America, all of East Coast of NA, leaving the US with one city on Baffin Island, and parts of Asia.

Ha! He noticed me. Quintillus, I bet I sound like a bit of an idiot, but where can I find your map? I'd like to have the same starting locations since it made for a pretty balanced game. My World Conquest attempts have so far resulted in my being way ahead when in Europe or way behind, starting outside of Europe.

It's somewhere in the first 4-5 pages (that's where I got the link), but it's also in his profile: enter it, and down near the bottom it has three uploaded maps.
