Hello folks. About a month ago I read a thread in which was debated how to get ALOT of cities without going bankrupt on the Earth map.
Most of this was accomplished through religion and mercantilism/rep economy.

To try this out myself I started an earth game with Hapsetut to check out how much cities I could get before AD with this kind of tactic.
To cheat a bit I started on a very low difficulty level and marathon, simply because I wanted to break the challenge of attaining 40+ cities before 1 AD.

However, the game didnt completely turn out as I expected, simply because I forgot the AI barely makes cities on noble difficulty, and I ended up with the entirety of the old world, including asia by 1 AD.

Therefor I gave myself a new challenge and CONQUER the world as fast as possible, and I managed to pull one off 555 AD.

TBH I have not been completely HOF crazy, and I am aware of the pre-ad space launch game, but I wonder if other people can attain a conquest date like this on earth map, or even beat me to it.
So it is a challenge!!
Any difficulty, any speed, any civ. SS your wins, and let the best man or woman win?!

Some fun facts and screenshots from my game.
Spoiler :

Europe, Middle east, India and China were mine in 1750 BC.

When I created the Statue of Liberty I gained 270 beakers without assigning any extra scientists.

250 AD Liberalism and 2000 beakers/turn.

451 beaker producing capital at 535 AD.

Victory!!!!

Nice game, funny screenshots. Pretty sick techrate indeed, but did you just keep on teching for the extra high score? I you don't really need steam power etc at that time :)

Interesting that Mali is one of the last countries to exist when you started as Egypt!
Cool, good work man.

How many of those cities did you actually build?

@ oranje
Steampower improves worker speed by 50%, and I could whip my levees because I was in a golden age for easy civic switch.

@ koch
Mali was quite a few turns away, and he doesnt hold that good of a land. Also I wanted to get a hold of Europe/middleast asap since that is imho key to getting as much cities as possible who can care for themselves.

@Supp.

I am not sure, but after my capital I might have build 8-9 more cities.

Hattie is SPI, so you get anarchy-free civics switches any time. :)

Duh. That happens when you try to recall past actions before christmas :D

I imagine with the Roman Empire this would be fairly easy... You can crush until you have won using the Praetorians it would seem.
Take JC as the LH.

I have no interest in actually doing this though, personally.

For speed Persians or Egyptians are better.

Though praets are stronger, mobility, very early access to UU and low difficulty level makes the latter way superior

Its a moot point really. The only other thing I would say is that Praets are relevant a lot longer, and that counters the speed thing in my book. Its great if your chariots are twice as fast, but they go obsolete when spearmen start popping up a lot...

On settler/mara? No way. Rome/persia/egypt are the most logical starting points however...I'd probably favor persia actually as you can settle coastal + horse easily, are centrally located for some old world beat-down, and have a UU that can take out the new world easily enough if massed.

I would think especially on marathon, because you wouldn't even need to tech more military after Iron Working due to the yet more expanded relevancy of the Praets.
I don't know though... perhaps I should try it...
I mean, from Rome you can kill German and France right away, Spain will be a push over because it is boxed in...

When I played it on Monarch with Rome I crushed all of Europe (including Russia), the Middle East and Egypt... all with Praets... On settler, where the AIs would be so backwards...

Anyhow, perhaps I should do one... just for the heck of it...
After I set up the pirate civ for the Capo that I promised...

Show us TMIT :)

Also in speedmode like you always do :p

Put up or shut up for me, eh? Very well. As I said, I took settler.

810 BC Persia conquest.

Old world conquest:

Spoiler :

1. Settle 1N for horse and good production
2. AH/spam immortals (got a settler from hut to settle the flood plains)
3. Wreck the entire old world using nothing but immortals:

New world conquest:

Spoiler :

Who needs to BULB astro, when you can get it with...oracle?!

Whip out a bunch of galleons and go pay monty and crew a visit. Monty had 5 cities but apparently no jags yet ^_^. I blasted them all to pieces easily, ending the game.

So there you go. Easy speed mode BC finish. If someone bothers to micro they'd probably get this before 1000 BC, but 810 BC is all I care to do to showcase just how abusive low difficulty marathon can be...

OK, wow... I don't think on my best day I can top that with the Praetorians...
You're a tough act to follow!
