Conquests 01: Results & Congratulations

Woohoo! My first GOTM and I get an award! Hooray for me!

Should I be proud or ashamed of my "Lowest Diplomatic Victory" award? :crazyeye: I don't care what anyone says! I'm proud!
Definitely proud. I'm jealous of any award with the word "Victory" in it ;).

Woo-Hoo! Top 25. Well 25th. And people say alcohol impairs you. HA!

Also congrats to the superb play of the upper echelon medal winners. Your scores always amaze me.

And also Kaiser B for persevering for the SS victory you and I nearly clinched for GOTM31!

And congrats to you Lord JB for your well done 20k victory :goodjob:

Perhaps we'll have the honor of tying each others finish dates once again someday

Edit: I meant COTM1 BTW Lord British, did you submit spoiler reports to your game? I'm gonna give 100k a try next COTM, so I could use some inspiration.

Thanks for the congrats Singularity. :) I submitted a report in the COTOM01 end game thread but to be honest it was pretty straight forward to achieve -

1) build TOA and the Pyramids before other civs get them (hardest part of the strategy)

2) Cram as many cities into the starting continent as possible (and as quickly as possible, while wiping the other civs out)

3) Never let TOA expire!

4) Build Lib., Cath., Col. in all cities and once this is done build fast moving military units to disband in cities to rush these improvents (also have tax slider set for max. monitory gain and rush with cash)

5) Use worker gangs to plant forests in all squares not forested b4 (quick shields especially with the 4 turn chop rate)

Thats basically it - with more time and effort I could have shaved 10 - 20 turns off the finish date but I played it in one 13 hour stint. :goodjob:

Congrats to all the winners!! :D :D

No way i missed a medal by one place. I got 2nd to last. LOL. I thought i woulda of done a little bit better but it was my first time on Regent so im happy that i didnt get last. I beat one person. Which makes me happy.

I would just like to pat myself on the back. I was far from recieving any medals, but I did manage to move from 144th in GOTM31 to 94th in Cotm1. Hooray for me! [party] I think that's quite a feat for never winning over chieftan before about 4 months ago.

Another self congratulatory note, as my first time at GOTM I was most impressed with my result (33rd).

Looking back I know I could have shaved at least 10 turns of this as I was waiting around a bit for astronomy before launching my invasion of the other continent, and could have used scientists much earlier.

But still any result above Scouts is worth shouting about for me (considering how much I've learned from him) even if I know he could have beaten me by a considerable margin if he had just tripped the domination limit.

Anyway I am miles ahead of him on GOTM points per post!

Just a thought....

- is dave mcW now going for all the slowest finishes as well?

Well done to all the winners! Of course all my hard-earned lessons from this and GOTM32 are now in the melting pot for COTM02, which is going well enough.

Regarding hitting the Domination limit quickly - what's the best means of doing that? I appreciate with COTM02 that it's going to be... trickier... than maybe in COTM01 (or GOTM32 for that matter) - but as I've made a reasonable, if unspectacular, start, any pointers might be appreciated :)

Happy-ish with my result here; I think I should've built that last SS component rather than going for 100k. In hindsight, I should've bought off the AIs as soon as I'd built the UN, would've had a win date over 100 years prior to my eventual win date :(

Neil.

Congratulations to the winners! And what a great start for COTM!

Good Game especially to you Lord British! I thought I had fastest 100K locked up, until I read your post. Very similar strategies, except I let the AI build the Wonders for me, I continued my conquests on the 2nd continent opting for more Libraries/Temples rather than building up culture on my first continent, and I didn't do any Forest planting/cutting (I find that part of the game quite painful.) Congratulations!

I agree Civ steve that forest planting/cutting is painful (b****y boring) and I certainly don't do it in my fun games- however in COTOM02 I am taking it to the extreme and taking screen shots everywhere to make sure there isnt one square of my land I haven't covered in forest at some stage. Any small micromanagement task I can think of will be imployed to try and compete with the BRAINS of the top players here!!

Extensive forestry is well beyond what I am prepared to do but if you are keen then you might look at this thread:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=32469&page=2

in which Eman demonstrates his way of keeping track of forestry operations.

WOW!, thanks for that Offa, that is an intense thread - those guys are keen civvers :crazyeye: . The numbering method is way better than marking off screen shot print outs - wish I had known of it sooner. Roll on COTOM03 :goodjob:

I'd also like to congratulate my countryman email10, who was just 4 turns from fastest 20K.

Great game Megalou! Congrats on your first medal! I thought I had the 20K-award since I thought I won in 1856 too but I have to check it out :)

Congratulations to all our winners, losers and all who participated. :goodjob:

I've somewhat belatedly  updated the Jason score calculator here for those who would like to see how else they could have finished to improve their scores in COTM 01. I've also fixed the Javascript, interactive one so that it will play on non-IE/non-Windows browsers, and that is now the one everyone will see. So please let me know if you have any problems with the Calculator in your browser/OS combination.

Code:
Conquest	1300AD
Cultural 20k	1700AD
Cultural 100k 1270AD
Diplomatic	860AD
Domination	1030AD
Space Race	1255AD
Max Score	9022

Domination/conquest dates seems to be slighty late.

The problem arose from the map being "Huge" in some respects (namely tech rate). The calculator is looking at it as "Huge" from all respects. On a Standard map with the same settings, the best dates would be (approximate... some changes have been made to the modifiers that I don't have access to right now):

Conquest 850AD
Cultural 20k 1700AD
Cultural 100k 1495AD
Diplomatic 810AD
Domination 680AD
Spaceship 1210AD

(I'm back from holiday.)

Iiihaaaa!!! My first distinction! [...] Congrats to all, especially Drazek. It seems you got your first domination award, which says something about how stiff the competition has been the past months.

Congrats for medal. :) Yep, it was my first award and I have been playing this since GOTM14 although my first finished and submitted game was GOTM20 where I placed 27th with 1515CE Domination. At that time my only Deity tactics was to seize the Great Library at the right time so it has been a long way.
