Im getting Conquests and I heard it comes with PTW in it. I've also heard from some Civ experts that it is good to play with PTW and Vanilla before going to Conquests, so my question is: If I get conquests, is there a way I can play PTW without Conquest stuff?

Yes, you just load PTW from the start menu option, instead of Conquests.

Really, tho, you don't need it. Just jump into Conquests. There are, after all, some excellent online resources for Conquests. ;)

I wouldn't bother playing PTW when you get Conquests, the differences aren't that major.

What about Oasis and Wheat and Sugar and those confusing things that appear on the screenshots people post when they play in conquests. And the new traits.

They're only confusing if you don't know what they are. Play Conquests.

Those are just another terrain bonus and you can see what they do, give more commerce/food/shileds, whatever.

I never played PTW, some of the reviews didn't sound real encouraging. I can tell you Conquests is great. I've had the game about 10 months & still haven't played all the scenarios yet. The new stuff won't confuse you. Lots of new Civs to use too.

Mainly cosmetic really. AnsarKing101 was implying that Conquests requires the tactical knowledge gained from playing PTW in order to win. That's not the case though; all changes were more for flavour or convenience. There's not much in the way of strategic upgrades to it.

Hi, I'm new here and have had a problem with the extra files mentioned by Turner.
The website mentions that it "must be intalled into the root directory of the Play the World expansion product". I believed that meant i should put it in the PtW folder inside the main Civilization folder, which I did. However I'm unable to find any of the new content when playing the game (I don't even know where to look). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The leader thing is a huge difference - no more farming to get wonders, now it's just pre-builds and keeping up/ahead in tech(and maybe a little luck).

They're extras, intended to be available to scenarios. They're not really added in as extra units for the epic game. Although they can be.

In the Tutorials, References & Guides subforum of the Creation & Customization forum, there will be instructions to adding units to the game. There are also mods that make use of these, and Rise & Rule is one that comes to mind.
