Conquests features comprehensive survey

let me ask it otherwise, will it be a new city imp for the main game, or only for the civs? It would be nice to have a way to increase production before the industrial age....

IIRC I read somewhere that all Conquests upgrades / changes / whatever will be accessible through the editor

It will probably be a scenario improvement, maybe even a re-named factory

Extremely likely. Slave Housing (or is it worker's housing) is in fact a factory equivalent in the Birth of civilization scenario.

For the Inca leader:
or Pachacuti
or Huayna Capac

they both were Sapa Inca (the co-name)

I got a C3C pop-up and it mentioned a new unit, Swiss Mercenary
swiss.pcx

That would have made sense, I can't believe I completely forgot about them.

Here it is (gif format). Obviously we know what the pikeman is now.
My guess would be it is a Dutch unit, probably for a scenario one (it would not be a Portuguese unit).

Hmmm that would be a very odd choice if thats true. Never heard that much about them in my history books.
But I could find this about them in combination with the dutch, so it sounds like the dutch UU to me:

the Swiss mercenaries became the most important economic link between the two allied republics. At the end of the 18th century, 21.000 Swiss solders were stationed in the Netherlands (more than three times the figure of Swiss who live actually in the Netherlands). The Netherlands at that time became the second employer of Swiss mercenaries, after France.

"de Meuron Regiment": Swiss mercenaries employed by the Dutch from 1693 who defected to
the British in 1795.

For a sum of 4000 Pound Sterling, professor Hugh Cleghorn of St. Andrew’s University of Scotland (During this period he was their secret agent, a master of espionage or in other words) manoeuvred Count de Meuron’s Corp of Swiss mercenaries to desert whom they were fighting for and switch over to the British.

The Swiss were on their (the Dutch) finest fighting arms and without them with their combatants lessened, they were left high and dry and finally without much of a fight, the Dutch capitulated to the British and the Swiss were with the victors, the British and were known as Regiment de Meuron.

Interesting.

Do you think it will be a 1.4.1 Pike?

For 30 shields this will be a lethal unit to Knights, but that's what Swiss Pikes were (but they came after Knights, like Pikemen should).

Depending on the traits of the civ, the Dutch are probably the Greeks of the Middle Ages. (Only the cost of Knights means they will be even tougher to defeat).

Honestly I'm glad we will get (although it isn't confirmed yet) a land unit as a UU. Historicly we we're known for our ships and not for our land units (the reason the swiss were hired :)). I use the ships ingame only to explore the world and to find the other civs in the game and don't use them for fights that much. And because one of the dutch traits must be seafaring we probable get some sea advances already.

I wouldn't count on it. It's probably scenario-specific for the colonization scenario. They might have an entirely different unit as their UU.

Byzantine Cataphracts confirmed by Jeff_ATARI to be in a scenario! This should make Xen and others who wanted the Cataphract(like me :D ) happy. Look on the third page of the Questions for Jeff_ATARI thread

it should be noted however, that it is not the official UU, unless they have chosen to give out two UUs' like some want...

it is a conquest availible unit, avalible in the Byzantine conquest, which also happens to be Jeff_Ataris favorite conquest- i veiw this as a good portent for the might of ther Byzantine cataphract :D

Maybe a Scenario unit ... never the dutch UU. The Dutch UU should be a dutch unit, not a Swiss one...

But Carthaginian UU is a mercenary as well...

Exactly + there were relationships between Swiss and Dutch since the golden age of Burgundy.

BTW first post updated with all scenarios. There is indeed a Napoleonic one ! :D

Well, what I recall from 'Van nul tot nu' ;) is that about the whole war with spain was fought with mercenaries, hired by the Orange family. But of course I can be wrong :p
It does make sense, since the Netherlands isn't known about it's great military force. But then again, they were known about their naval force... Still could be a scenario unit, or just... a mercenary :goodjob:

A Mercenary could be built by any nation, it would cost a large amount of gold + maybe 3gpt. When you build one another nation in the game would lose one population in some city....:crazyeye:
