Last weekend a strange event took place: a film festival showing only films coming from a certain political background, i.e. from a pro-Bush background. The movies that got shown were "DC 9/11: A Time of Crisis" (shows the "difficult decisions the Bush administration faced" after 9/11), and others mostly targeting Michael Moore ("Michael and Me", "Michael Moore Hates America").

Don't bother looking them up in IMDB, I haven't found most of them either.

What I found out they mostly define themselves by making the same as Michael Moore, just from the opposite perspective. What I wonder though is, if it works if you have as a goal to insult or slander a person, to do this purely through facts. Also I wonder what Republicans hope to gain by slandering someone who isn't even up for vote; it's basically as if they'd lead a campaign against any other artist who opposes Bush.

The organisers say that they want to be a counterbalance to Redford's Sundance Festival. Which makes me wonder what Redford shows at his festival. IIRC one of the movies coming big out of the Suncance was "Pi" (though this was several years ago) - completely a-political. I really wonder how an independent film festival could need a conservative counterbalance. And I wonder how those movies shown at the conservative festival actually constitute a counterbalance. Even though they are mostly attacks on Moor, they can't even coutnerbalance him.

Is this the lame attempt of Republicans to get some artists to support them? Does any artist openly say that he supports the Republicans?
