Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone might have some insight to try and help me overcome these problems. Civ 4 is crashing regularly (at least every half hour on standard maps) with a black screen with the civ 4 cursor still flashing over the top. I can still hear the game running and it continues playing its just i can't see it doing so. I have tried the fixes suggested with regards to the ini file but to no avail. Also i have the omega drivers after they were recommended on this forum. My Specs are:

P4@3.0Ghz
1GB of DDR2
160GB HD which is defragged and has over 100GB free space
X300SE w/128MB

I've got a bit of an idea with regards to computers but i have no idea how to try and fix this. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks guys

Hi,

Unfortunately there isn't much to do :(

I have had the same problem and it was starting to get on my nerves!!! Anyway back to the problem :)

I updated my bios and driver but be VERY CAREFUL if you do that... The slighest mistake can be fatal for your computer... But before you try that you can try to play the game how I play it....

1024x768 with low grafic!! Since I started to do that the game hasnt crashed once.... I prefare to play the game with a lower resolution instead restarting my computer every hour.... Try that...

Im guessing that you have downloaded patch 1.61, art pack patch etc etc....

Hope it will work for you!!!

Yeah it is annoying to say the least. I already am running at the lowest resolution and the lowest graphics settings so i've got no idea what else to do. I'll be buying a new video card in probably 2 months so i guess i'll have to deal with playing civ 20 minutes at a time. Firaxis this shouldn't be a compromise i have to make.

Check your video card temperatures. I couldn't play longer than about 20 minutes until I installed a custom fan for my video card.

For what ever reason, CIV4 is quite a work out on a video card. Look at your card temp before entering the game and then start it play ten minutes and look at your temp again.

Civ4 seems to want 256mb graphics cards and won't tolerate anything else. Rest of your system sounds fine, just upgrade that card and it should be sweet!

Thanks guys,

Turns out the video card doesn't support temp monitoring so i can't do anything there. Anyway the new card i'm looking at getting is one of the HIS ice-q cards, so i don't really want to buy a fan now, i would imagine cooling won't be a problem once i buy that. I'll just have to play C3C til then. Thanks again for the help.
