I'm sorry if this has already been asked before, I'm a little bit of a newb.

Is it possible to edit the game to remove/tone down corruption?

Yes, there are several options/tools for modifying in-game corruption:
- Optimal Number of Cities (under World Sizes)
- corruption slider (under Difficulty Levels)
- corruption reducing ability of Police Officer type citizens (under Citizens)
- number of available buildings with Courthouse type effect
- number of wonders available with Forbidden Palace type effect
- Corruption and Waste setting for the various governments
