If you look at the history, you have to wonder what the Iroquois did to piss off the staff. Both games have been at deity and the first was in a bad starting location where you had to guess right to get horses before the AI got to the only ones local to your start.

I think its because of their powerful unit, if the level is too easy, or horses are too easy to get then you'll see many crazy early conquests wins that blow the normal run of the mill game out of the water. This is why you'll see many of the civs with the powerful UU at harder difficulties or with otherwise odd map arrangements. Look at Persia, first game and never again. And that was ages ago, long before we've all refined out skill, if Persia was played now on a regent map we would have a lot more early victories. Which is only a problem because I believe the staff want to have a map that plays for longer than 1-2 hours.

Yes, but the recent Iroquois game was specifically billed as a reprise of the other one - and you must admit that the starting location was better. ;) I even toned it down a bit over the test game I played, by removing iron from the French to give an easy first-up target.

Hmm.. I wonder what will the new GOTM background for Japanese look like? I assume the background features samurais, imperial palaces or gardens, etc. GOTM11 didn't had a great starting location, some amateurs lost this on purpose so I hope the future Japanese GOTM begin with better starting location.

I'm not sure about the other civilization cultures, so I'll someone else take a guess of what future GOTM background it might look like.
