COTM13 Question - Mobilisation: Is this how it’s supposed to work?

I know I’m not really allowed to talk about my game until the spoiler threads are started so I’ll try to the details to a minimum. This is actually my first game of Civ3 for over three months as I’ve been out in Namibia doing charity work with Raleigh International (which was wicked btw), so I’m a little rusty which maybe is not the best way to go into a Deity level game!

Anyway it’s been a while since I last used mobilisation (not even sure if I’ve ever used it before in C3C) but I seem to remember that you could still build wonders or at least keep building them if you’d already started them. However one turn after mobilising I was pretty shocked to find that nice juicy wonder I’d been building had been dumped in favour of one of the standard military improvements, wasting a large amount of shields :( . Fair enough I suppose, after all it does say in the civlopaedia that no peaceful improvements are allowed when in mobilisation, so I decided to put it down to experience and carry on. Then I noticed that the culture per turn had just been cut in half  , this I found especially annoying, as I’m not sure the civlopaedia even says anywhere that this would happen.

So well I guess what I’m asking is, is the culture per turn being cut in half supposed to happen? Oh and if anyone has any tips on how I can get out of mobilisation quickly I’d very much appreciated it. I’ve never won a Deity (or Demi-god for that matter) game before and until this happened I was thinking I had a reasonable chance.

Oh and I’d just like to say thanks to the GOTM/COTM staff I really appreciate all the time you guys put into running these games.

Culture per turn does indeed halve while you are mobilized.

I can't answer the wonder question, I'm afraid. I thought anything you started before mobilization would finish. Are you sure something else didn't happen to terminate your build?

You can get out of mobilization by making peace with someone you're at war with.

The autoswitch of peaceful builds to wartime builds was a new feature in C3C.

Mobilization can also be ended when a civ is destroyed.

Note you can keep building the UN (and all wonders with the MIL flag, of course - technically, that means Manhattan).

Any peace treaty/destroyed Civ suffices. If you need to get out by all means, and the big Civ you originally mobilized against won't talk:
Is there a weakling somewhere? Either destroy him yourself, or sign another AI?

It is as I feared, I have indeed well and truly shot myself in the foot there then :shakehead. I only hope that others can learn from my mistake of the folly of mobilisation when going for one of the culture victories. Thanks for the advice Doc, at least I’ve learnt a lot from this months game, and there's always next month....
