Counter-religions

I have an idea with religions. But however I hope someone else can do it, as It requires a lot of work with python wherin I aint profiecient in and I am now quite busy with my own Hell on Earth mod.

Each religion has another religion which counter and is often (tough not always) based on the beliefs of the former, but usually always with practices which goes straight onto it.

For example: Christianity and Satanism, Satanism developed somewhat as a counteraction to Christianity.

Counter religions for Abrahamic religions
Christianity <-> Satanism
Islam <-> Thelema (is not really a counter religion of the Islam, but the practices of Crowley & Co - which includes consuption of alcoholics due to influence by left-hand tantra - goes however straight against both Christianity but surely Islam too (alcohol consuption is forbidden in Islam) , and since Christianity already has a counter-religion Islam gets this one)
Judaism <-> Gnosticism

Hinduism <-> ?
Buddhism <-> ?
Taoism <-> ?
Confucianism <-> ?

How a counter religion starts? A city with Christianity but with no Christian buildings and is far from its Holy City will likely start Satanism as is for other religions and their respective Counter religions. Unhappiness may also play a factor.

What causes counter religions:
- Unhappiness for the religion they counter in the city
- Unhappiness in the whole civilization with the civic Organized Religion (with the religion they counter) and Theocracy (in any case, unless they are state religion)
- When a counter religions becomes a state religion (which never happened), the religion they counter will be considered a counter religion in that civilization
- Do you have more ideas?

it's a good idea, I'm personally not sure about satanism/golden dawn/etc, I mean for what you're doing you are absolutely right, but since all left handed stuff is the opposite of traditional religious value...

-->fyi, 'left handed' is old pagan slang for someone who follows a satan/setian, there are about 12 more...the difference between right handed and left handed is pretty basic. left handed = "I am god" ..or "My godhead is true"...meaning you as a spiritual being gather power to enpower your godhead.. whereas right handed in all of its forms from neo-paganism to islam to judaism, to christianity, and of course hinduism, follow "I return to the universe as a spark in a greater flame"...meaning when you are croaksville your spirtual being returns to something greater than yourself, e.g. paradise/heaven/summerland.

-->fyi2 the terms "Left handed and Right handed" are not intended as slurs and are (popularly) about 35 years old, so my use isn't a slam at anyone, don't blame me, blame Otter Zel, he's ussually credited with the first usage.

I think instead of counter religions, because well ya just don't wanna put energy *insert tie-dye here* into your game like that and it implies one thing is 'better' than another, (no matter what anyone thinks, it is still all a matter of opinion and the larf riot of the universe is we are all probaby wrong) I would take counter ideals that have become religions. like consumerism and materialism which have always given the same comforts of religion and in the last 3 generations have taken deeper roots in societies.
