Crash maps larger than Duel!

So I have a huge bug that has prevented me from playing the game since release.
I can't start a game on any other size but duel!
On anything but duel, the game will start loading the map and crash during the character dialog.
I either get an mscvr90.dll error or a civilization5.exe error.
I've already tried using the svc /scannow in cmd prompt as well as reinstalling the vc-redist, but no luck.

Please tell us your system specs, maybe your computer is "just" too weak.

It definitely not my system being weak.
AMD Phenom 9500
4gb ram (using xp 32-bit though)
nvidia geforce gtx 465 1gb

Yup, that system should be perfect.

But still... try lowering *everything*, graphics settings, monitor resolution and whatever else you can think.
We just need to see if it starts at all, or if the problem is elsewhere.
