Crash on meeting first civilisation

Hi, I just installed this mod. The game crashes when I meet my first foreign civ (before the diplomacy screen appears). I am on Win7 32-bit.

I'm playing the latest version of the mod.

OK I managed to get the game working past meeting the first civ. But it still crashes frequently, with an error message advising me to "turn down the graphics". Additionally, there are also frequent crashes during map generation even when generating standard sized maps (using the default mapscripts) with the message that the program has asked to termiante runtime in an unusual way. Hm, perhaps your video card is below spec? You have a 32-bit OS, but memory problems related to that should have kicked in later.

Not overclocking at all... everything is out of the box. My videocard is a GTX 570 so i really hope that's enough!

Of course it is, but what you have is symptomatic to me of faulty videocard anyway. Do you have up-to-date drivers? What in-game video settings do you use?
