Right, (DEEP BREATH)

Tried to make a mod, made one, tried to play it.

Now when I start a game it's all working, no error messages in the civped files or any flc's missing.
When I build my first city with a settler the game crashes, no matter what civ I try.

Anyone help?

There is no error message

I press "B" and it settles but before the city screen opens for the first time the game crashes by closing itself..... got me really confused this one.

All civs in my game have the standard line-up (Settler, Worker and Scout)

Have you added buildings? Make sure in the PediaIcons.txt file that you have ERA SINGLE or CULTURE Where it needs to be

if thats the case it should come up witha message

It should come up with a message, but it doesn't always do that.
I had the same exact problem with my mod. IIRC, the problem turned out to be the Pediaicons.txt. So make sure you everything entered right there, also make sure that your buildings.pcx and units_32.pcx are done correctly.

I am having a similar problem with my mod right now. I have it described more fully in another thread, but it stems from adding more resources. I have checked my PediaIcons.txt and everything looks good in it.

This can be caused by a million different things. I have found the most common cause is when deleting something when modding, specifically deleting something that is default.

This happened to me first when I deleted several unused civs from a mod I was creating. Lo-an behold, when importing the default civs it worked fine.

So my guess is you've fallen into this trap. My general rule of modding is to "add to" the default, or only modify the default things (Civs, techs etc).

I did some browsing around on the forums and it appears there is a "resource overflow bug" See - http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69769.

This was apparently causing my problems, because when I put in a resources.pcx that does not have so many resources on it, I do not get the crashes.

I think your problem was caused by something else. I have more than 32 resources in my game, closer to double that probably, and I have no problem with it crashing. I used to have a problem with one Luxury resource crsahing the game if it was in Jungle, and I connected it by road, but that cleared up with Conquests. I sometimes do get the "phantom" resource that was mentioned though.

This error has been posted a few times and the answer is usually in the pediaicons file that you have edited. I'm afraid it's a case of checking and double-checking any entries you may have made, even possibly temp removing them. I know this is not too helpful but it is somewhere to start.

As I say it has happened before and it is usually a simple typing error.

Hully.

No errors as far as I could see in the PediaIcons.txt. There was clearly something wrong with that resources.pcx. When I used any other resources.pcx it worked like a charm.

Yup. I think thats what is wrong with my Long abondoned 'Goldflash Euro-Africa Mod", but I no longer care
