vanilla civ 4 works fine, path 1.74 - well, actually didnt bothered to play vanilla long enough to be absolutely sure; i got back to civ for beyond the sword, which somehow landed on me desk - but i played over 2hrs game wo any problems, and with older patches i played it quite a lot

problem is bts (latest path, 3.19 or so) - it semi-randomly crashes gfx engine - looks like huge memory leak, it often lets me play fresh game for over an hr, but with loaded saves crashes anywhere form 1sec to 20min gameplay - 1sec crashes being the majority - unit animations run for couple frames and freeze wo even showing ui panel

in both scenarios (immediate and delayed crash) screen freezes, hw cursor is still works(moves), then most times after couple seconds screen turns to classical spotted pink easily obtainable by displaying random parts of memory :p

now, before i used old(er) drivers and/or enabled save memory function in ini, crashes were bit different, after screen freeze it would let me alt-tab to win giving black screen on alt-tabing back, same freeze would result if alt-tabbed from working game, but at that point i had to reboot anyway as dx engine was crashed - even scrolling browser window was slowed to a crawl

setup: amd@2ghz ram1gb gfx9200se xpsp3 3t/raid+120g ssd

before used 3.8.442 omega
currently on 3.8.252 omega drivers (cat 6.5)
planned trying 2.5.14 (cat4.1) - pretty much last thing left to try...

oh, btw, i tried pretty much every tweak presented here - art0 unpacking, ini tweaks, minimal settings in game, even the mem defrag thingie :scan:
also, my bts patches civ straight to 1.74 and its bts 3.13 iirc

so, if anyone has any good ideas (other than upgrading), please let me know
in the meantime i might try older drivers...

btw, my last putty was fried by lightning, and im waiting with new one for intel to realese cpus with unlocked multiplier, which looks like gonna take cpl more weeks, so its 0 upgrades for me for a while
