The US : American Reference, +25% Production Bonus, & Every turn the population thinks they own the word "America" and that can only be a reference about them, all other American Continental Civ's gain -1 on their relations with The US.

China : One Child Policy, 300% Population growth, 50% chance that when the population increases the new citizen born is a girl, which is then immediatly thrown on a trash heap (true story) obviously killing the new citizen.

England : Tea and crumpets, +40% global happiness, if a English citizen has daily tea and crumpets then they will be happy even during a blitz, Troop Healing in friendly territory is decreased by 50%, they are too busy Drinking Tea to rest properly plus they don't want to be a bother to anyone, Troop combat effectiveness in non-friendly territory is decreased by 10%, lack of Tea supply lines leave English Troops that are unwilling to fight. Till threatend with being shot in the trench for cowardness.

France : The Worlds Biggest Joke, -25% foregin relations, nobody respects France and everyone hates them, -25% modifiers, However, due to world recognition for Google : Did You Mean French Military Defeats? Nobody will expect them to be any good at fighting giving the French an element of suprise in warfare, which equates to a 15% Global Strength Bonus.

Germany : Don't mention the Nazi's, Mentioning the Nazi's in diplomatic relations with the German Otto Van Bismark, (who suspiciously already knows about Mr Adolf??? o.0) will result in an immediate -50% to modifiers with Germany. German Citizens can be indoctrinated into the army directly, -1 pop for +1 free top of the range unit. (Strategic costs ignored).

Ireland : Potatoes Potatoes Potatoes, They like Potatoes did you know, they get +20% Population Growth & +5 Happiness from their humping like bunny rabbits and their vast consumption of quite fertilising Potatoes.
 
India - Caste System - When a unit dies, a nearby city loses population because the unit's children have to now do their parents job.
 
For some civs that were in previous games...

Maya: Apocalypse - if nobody has won the game by 2012, then everybody except the Mayans disappears off the map and the entire world is destroyed

Scandinavia: Lego Bricks - any unit that 'dies' can be rebuilt with a little money

Korea: Starcraft Addiction - once the Koreans discover Computers, all cities get -2 health but +100% spaceship production
 
Korea: Nuclear desire- -5 happiness in capital until nukes are researched.
 
Babylon: Code of Hammurabi- Doubles effectiveness of courthouses, in addition, courthouses grant +1 culture and first courthouse grants +1 happiness.



(Does anyone have confirmation on what courthouses actually do in Civ 5 by the way?)

I recommend two changes: UA should be known as "PO-TA-TOES!" and there should be a negative adjustment of some sort to Science yields, on account of the drinkin'!

Australia: Australian Reference, +25% happiness because all of their citizens think they "own" the word "Australia ". -1 relations with Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and Indonesia.

Central African Republic and South Africa: African Reference, + 25% health because all of their citizens think they own the word "African". -1 relation with all other African civs.

US - +100% happiness and - 100% war weariness(if there still is) upon discovery of mass media.
 
Adopting a religion (I hope they come back in an extension, but with less diplomacy impact than in civ4) which activates an additional social policy tree that is unique for all religions. The state religion can be changed at the same terms as for a social policy (if that is possible). No culture is needed for activating the religion SP, however, the subtree elements are handled as a normal social policies.

Unique effects of a Religion are active for all cities in which this religion is active.

Buddhism (Love all Life): +1 food on hills, +1 food from non meat resources, -1 food from meat and fish resources, can not raise cities

Hinduism (Hide and Seek of the Shiva): +1 happiness for every other religion present in the city, -1 Food from Cow

Judaism (Credit of the Sabbath): 6 of 7 turns +20% Gold, every 7th turn: -50% gold and +1 happiness for every not-specialize citizen.

Confucianism (Moral Perfection): Every 100 turns: permanent +2 culture per turn.

Christianity (Principle of Sunday): 6 of 7 turns +15% hammer, every 7th turn: -50% hammers and +2 culture for every not-specialize citizen.

Taoism (Principle of Harmony): +1 happiness for mutual open borders if cultural borders touch each other, causes 1 + unhappiness for 10 turns on the attacker if city gets attacked

Islam (Logic of Religion): +2 science from mathematics, writing and compass, pig tiles become impassible

I would like this but the problem is someone could see this as promoting one religion more than the other/overpowering one religion/insulting one religion... that's why they were all equal in Civ IV

Please, that doesn't make sense.

Atheism does not cause unhappiness.
It will however cause increased science, true to an extent, Athiests generally are scientific in nature as this is how they came to be Athiest as apposed to believeing in "the good book".
Atheism will increase happiness as the joys of being right set in.
Also it will increase monetary gain, no church taking thier "cut" for the lords prayers.

Atheism = +5 science from universities/libraries, +3 Happiness, +3 gold from Temples/Churches

Why +gold from churches, because they no longer consume the +2 gold they always consumed, and Athiests will pillage these ancient relics for treasure to sell to the religious, +1 extra gold.
