Hi, question: Roads are needed to create trade routes, correct? It seems obvious, but I want to make sure. If so, do I need to link the centers of the cities together with roads to create a trade route?

YOu have multiple ways to connect two cities via a trade route:
- roads, obviously, connect cities
- rivers and coasts always connect cities when inside your cultural borders, and outside when you discover sailing
- ocean connect cities when inside your cultural borders, and outside when you discover astronomy

Don't forget wonders and buildings that add extra trade routes and that increase the values of ones you already have. Temple of Artemis, Customs House , etc.

Forget customs houses. They suck. Better off building wealth.

Then you've simply never used them properly. If I've got a city with 5-6 large trade routes (6-10 coins apiece), and enough foreign cities to pay for it, you bet I'm going to build one!

What screen do you go too to find out how many trade routes a city has and how much they're bringing in?

They're in the city screen, near the upper left corner. If the city has any trade routes they'll be listed there, along with whatever commerce they're providing for that city.

The city screen for each city. The trade routes are in the upper left corner in the box below the one that shows how much gold, research, etc the city is producing. You will see a list of cities that your city is trading with and how much commerce is coming from each trade route.

Yes, in the case of roads you need to build a road from one city tile to the other, not just from one cultural border to another. I think that is what you are asking there.

Ok, three cities. Their cutural borders don't touch and they don't have a road connecting them. city B and C are connected via a river. If city A and city B are on the coast is then city A connect to City C via City B?

Yes, but not until you've researched Sailing. (Well, for BTS anyway, not sure about vanilla or Warlords.)
