Based on the assumption that Firaxis will add more ages in future expansions, I will speculate on what types of crisis may included.

Ancient: Bronze Age collapse, invasion of the sea peoples

Classical: barbarian invasion, economic collapse

Medieval: plague, religious schism, crusades

Discovery: revolutions

Modern: environmental destruction, nuclear war

Curious to see what people come up with

I'm just wondering how each type of crisis affects your empire. It seems a given that your empire will succumb to a crisis that will force them to reband as a new civ, but what's the difference between succumbing to barbarians or a slave revolt or a dynastic usurpation?

Based on the 3 Ages in the game

Antiquity:
Barbarian Invasions, Plagues, Famines, Political breakdowns (succession cisis)

Exploration:
Revolutions, Plagues, Independence movements, Economic collapses

Classical: Barbarian Invasion. Breakdown of Trade Chains. Rise or usurper Generals/Pretender. Great droughts leading to famine.

Discovery: Revolution. Reactionary revolts / modernization struggle. Introduction of new plagues through trade. Religious schism. Inflation.
