Croatia to join EU in 2013

I thought the only country that would not be in the non-EU apart from the UK was Hungary or have they seen sense.

I am hoping Denmark as well, Sweden and Czechs are at the same point as far as I could understand.
There is a debate going here now wether backing the deal or no. We support it but we haven't gone into it yet, Some of our more sensible parties wants it put to a poll and that I can guarantee will result in a Putin-like percentage of NO sayers, I think 80%+ would vote no.

But I guess when all comes to it, they will swindle and con their way through like they have always done. EU good - Democracy Bad.

What's there to be angry about ?
No one expected the UK to contribute anything useful anyway. Or are you pissed because Czechia isn't part of the new not treaty ?
I think it doesn't really matter if four non-Eurozone countries aren't on board, after all the point is to stabilize the Euro.

Stabilize the euro with a treaty that is impossible to fulfill already in the moment when it was negotiated. Yeah, right.

It's stability all right: it's guaranteed to continue the track record of failures from the previous treaties.

No offense to your country, but I don't think it should have ever been let into the EU without some serious overhaul of.. well, a lot of stuff.

Really ? The EU ? You actually mean the EU and not the € ?

Hasn't the idea of converging monetary policy in the EU been around since the 70s? Therefore when Greece joined in '81 everybody knew it would be part of the Euro.

Why, I can not use my Euros in the UK.

Did they also 'know' it when Denmark and the UK joined ?
How about Poland, Czechia, Hungary and the lot ?
And I don't know if Greek finances were already this screwed up in '81, but they had almost 20 years to get it in order.

I read somewhere today that Britain agreed in principle to the Euro in the 1970s and 1980s but in 1992 opted themselves out of it.

Yes when we left the ERM after the hedge fund bet against US.

The base rate went up from about 10% to 12% then 15% in one day.
The rise to 15% was cancelled.

I was getting a bit worried about my mortgage repayments as the day went on.

How about Poland, Czechia, Hungary and the lot ?

They all knew it. They even signed that they will join. And Poland is planning to join asap.

Yeah, I do. When Poland joined the EU we had to flip our economy upside down and rebuild it from scratch. Of course this would have happened anyway.. But there are strict rules on what sort of economy you can and can't have if you want to join the EU.

I don't think they are strict enough.. or perhaps in the case of Greece they were a bit more lax back when they joined.

Cry me a river. Are you really telling me that you have to rebuild your industries because of EU and not their mismanagement during the central plan?

And if you want to trying imply that Greece had "worse" industries than Poland, you are wrong. But if you want to play this game, than Poland had a worse state of economy than Czech republis, so please shove this sentiment of yours somewhere.

This hurts my nationalistic soul, why god, why?

Yes I am getting a bit shamefull here as well as I find myself agreeing with the nationalist right wing nutters!(not you, the ones we have here in DK)

I understand Slovenia, but Croatia, if Montenegro enters before us I'm going to go all protest and revolution on our "government".

I'm pretty sure Montenegro will enter before Bosnia, because even Bosnians describe their "government" as a ""government"".
There's just too many citizens in this country that don't think it should be a country.

The trouble is there is not one government in Bosnia.

Montenegro looks like it will sign to join next spring, I assume they will be pleased about the Eurovision dispute now;). Serbia looks like it may sign next summer.

Communist Poland's industrial capacity dwarved Greece's.

And indeed the industries of the communist bloc were often the best in the world ... what screwed them was that the end of communism destroyed their economic system and all those countries had to re-adapt. That's about losing not about being bad.

I can imagine this tobo true considering all the laws and regulations we in the west enforced on the industry... atleast compared to denmark.
Toxic waste, pollution output and so on and on.
Where it seems there werent so many in the former eastern bloc.
Besides that, my impression of Greece is that it is not an industrial country like for example Germany or England was... But Poland I could imagine it was...
Hehehe for some totally ignorant and imaginative post! there you go!
