It does seem to stretch the definition of "colony"; though I suppose the Dual Monarchy was proud of it.

Question #7: What was the first German settlement founded in Africa?

Just a guess, without looking in the books:

Isl. Arguin, somewhere in the 1680'ies.
Lüderitz (or Angra Pequena)in Namibia (South-West Africa back then), but that one is just the first in SW-Africa I think.

As for the Vandals, I definitely wasn't thinking of their invasion. I think the key word is "settlement"; like most Barbarians, they captured preexisting cities rather than "founding" them. ...

The only source I've found on Arcuin states that it was founded in 1688; the settlement that I'm thinking of was founded in 1683.

Well, I think it is. Geopgraphy is more than only 'What is the capital of...' (but you know that). This thing has to do with tourism, which is a part of geography as well (just like 'Why does a copany move to Amsterdam instead of Paris). If Andu's question is right, than mine is as well.
