From the OED, 1933:

... adoption of Latin Graecus, pl. Graeci, the name applied by the Romans to the people who called themselves 'Ellenes. ...

The Latic Graeci is adverbial Greek Graichoi, said by Aristotle (Meteor. I, xiv) to have been the prehistoric names of the Hellenes in their original seats in Epirus. ... Recent scholars think the name may have been brought to Italy by colonists from Euboea, where there is some evidence of its having existed. ...

(I hope that's of some help; No telling what research on the origin of the name has been done since 1933 ... )

Now that sounds prety good!
The Eubea thing sounds quite logical too since the Romans have already taken something else from Eubea....

Their Alphabet!!!

Yes. The so-called Roman Alphabet is nothing more that a changed version of the Greek one<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/mwaha.gif" border=0>!

<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0>

So Andu next question (#23) is yours. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/goodwork.gif" border=0>

(If you, or anyone else learn more don't hesitate to post about it)

Question 12: In the Great War of the Pacific (1879-1883), Chile defeated Peru and Bolivia. In seizing and annexing the Bolivian provinces of Tarapaca and Antofagasta, the Chileans obtained what valuable natural resource found in abundance in that region(excluding precious metals)?

It was during the "pacific war". Chile bet Bolivia and took her access to the sea and her major port: Arika (spelling?)

The ressources were "nitrate" and "cuivre".
(I don't remember the names of these in English)

Ok easy about the highest peak :Vaalserberg is the answer with 321 meters.
Now, about the lowest, it could be the hill in the backyard you were talking some days ago, if Prora can fill in there, why not a beautiful small hill
wink.gif
. Seriously the answer is Prins Alexanderpolder 7 m. Hope that's ok.

Well, you made a small mistake. See, the Prins Willem-Alexander polder is beneath sea-level. So it is negative. Besides, my head tells me it's -6 meters. But ok. Next question for you.

Yes, you're right i forgot to put a - before the 7... BTW, to be sure what's the true height you just have to go there to measure... <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0>.

The city was called Ottawa because of the Ottawa Indians that originally lived there.

The city was called Bytown in honour of Lt.Colonel By's work in developing the Rideau Canal and bringing prosperity to the area.
