The Westminster Statue, I worded this question badly and many said Balfour Declration.

The double crown.

Answers

1/ What is the name of Pyrrhos of Epire's dynasty ?

Basically it is the Molosses, from whom came also Alexandre's mother.
For some reasons, especially the fact I only got one real answer I accepted "Eacids".

2/ Who was Metternich ?

Most got that right. A conservative Austrian minister during the Napoleonic era. He played an important part in both the Vienna congress and the spirit of the Holy Alliance.

3/ A modern African country was made of an Italian colony + a British colony, which one is it ? Bonus : a third European country had colonized another part of it : what European country ? and super-bonus : what happened to that part ?

Somalia. Somaliland was actually the name of the English (south coast) colony. The other power present there was France, whose part became sort of independant by itself as Djibouti which actually enabled France to keep its bases in Africa for the country has nothing to live on save French money in exchange for the bases. Erythrea was Italian, then Ethipia breifly but neither England nor France were present there.

4/ What is the Wafd ?

The nationalist Egyptian party. Only one approached the answer and was given the point.

5/ At the battle of Cannae, the two Roman consuls were present. How did they decide who was to decide ? Bonus name the one in charge of the battle.

Simple, albeit maybe not efficient. Every consul would take charge every other day. That day it was Varron's turn who against the will of the other consul (who died there BTW) decided to face Hannibal's troops for a well-known result.

6/ What Empire occupied most of the Chinese Turkestan (as well as Tibet) during the XVIIth century ?

It was called the Kalmuk. More Turkish than Mongol but same type anyway. I accepted Dzoungary as well.

7/ Who controlled Sudan during the colonization era ? (be careful there is a trick here).

The trick was that Sudan was actually an English and Egyptian condominion. England actually had the power but officially it was ruled by both. Gordon died at Khartum directing Egyptian troops.

8/ What are the battles of Magenta and Solferino ?

Battles fought (and won) by the French of Napoleon III against Austria for the unification of Italy.
Napoleon III got the Milanese which he gave to "Italy" in exchange for a referendum that brough Nice and Savoy into France.

9/ What is the origin of the country name Tanzania ?

It is made up of the two territories there : German "Tang"anyka and the Sultanate of "Zan"zibar on the coast.

10/ The capital of the Byzantine Empire switched from Constantinople to Nicee (English spelling might be different) in 1204. Why ?

Most got that right. The Crusaders asked by the Venitians had taken Constantinople and created the "Latin Empire" forcing the Byzantines to find a new capital (Nicea) before reconquering Constantinople.

The winner is pawpaw.

I am gonna step down from this quizz for some time because looking back on the thread I fear I might be a bit over-present and I would like some new blood to both participate and organize the quizz... without feeling this is a semi-private quizz or something.

Good luck to all !

For some reasons, especially the fact I only got one real answer I accepted "Eacids".

The Molossoi were the name of one of many of the Epirote tribes (the other really important one was the Thesprotikons) which ended up conquering the rest of them. The 'Aeacid's were the dynasty of the Molossoi kings.

My wording might not have been the best... Actually I expected people to mention Molosses but Eacids is definitely fine. I just thought I would expect both except you turned out to have the "very" correct answer albeit not the one I thought people would think of....

:)

If I win this quiz (if things stay the same), somebody else can go ahead and post questions. I won't have time to do it for the next few days. I suggest the 2nd place person. Ofcourse this is only if I'm in first.
-Thanks

If Constantine stays in second, it'll have to be the third place
person, as Constantine is ineligible this time.
