Sorry, guys, real life issues force me to bow out of asking.

The floor is open.

May I? (ten)

Sure.

And your sig takes up too much space; pls limit it to 5 lines in normal font, including empty spaces. ;)

Thanks and fixed :)

All right. I decided to divide this up so my questions weren’t too specific to one area. I had to throw some Etymology questions in though
1-3: European

1 - When and from whom did Portugal gain independence? (½ each)

2 - In my last round, I asked about the Western Schism. Before this event though, there was a larger split that has had greater impact on history: The Great Schism. Explain the split and who made up each side. Hint: There are five powers involved. (2 points: 1 for the explanation, ½ for each faction correctly identified)

3 - Who was Wat Tyler? (½ point)

Extra Credit: Before the Great Schism, there was a similar split that was resolved. Give me the dates (years). (1 point)

Because Etymology fascinates me, questions 4 and 5 shall be about language. There are three divisions in English: Old, Middle and Modern. These questions shall cover Old English and Middle English.

4 - What is the other name given to Old English and what's the common date for the end of the language? (¼ point each)

5 - Middle English was often perceived as the language of commoners in England (though Chaucer and Layamon both spoke it). Nobles spoke another language and the clergy still another. What were these other two languages of England? (½ each)

Extra Credit: What language is most similar to English? (½ point)

6-9: Asia

6 - When was the Thai Kingdom of Sukhothai founded? (1 Point)

7 - Siddhārtha Gautama (Buddah) was said to have been born in what is now Nepal. What was the name of the kingdom at the time of his birth? What was the city? (½ each)

8 - What was the last imperial dynasty of China? (1 Point)

9 - What was Manchukuo? (1 Point)

Extra Credit: Gautama makes his way into Hinduism and Shintoism. Many Hindus believe he was the 9th reincarnation of what God? Who do followers of Shinto see him as? (½ each)

America

10 - What was the first purpose of Social Security? (1 Point)

A possible ten points plus 2½ EC. I tried to loosely reflect difficulty in point value, however I'm not sure how difficult the Asia-related questions are. No PM will be accepted after 11:59 PM (23:59) EST on the 24th. Good luck!

With ~five hours left, the scores:

Shortguy: 5
North King: 5
XIII: 4
dragonlord: 2

1 - Kingdom of Leon, 1128. (I awarded ¼ to anyone who said Spain and LouLong who gave the date of the battle)

2 - The Great Schism is another name for the East-West Schism. It involved the final split of Christianity into the Roman Catholic and the Eastern Orthodox churches -- which were the powers. The five factions involved were the five headquarters of Catholicism before the split. They were: Rome, Constantinople, Antioch, Alexandria, and Jerusalem. Rome and the other four split. This was in 1054

3 - English Peasants' Revolt of 1381.

Extra Credit: There have been many Schisms, but not before the Great. 863-879

4 - Anglo-Saxon, 1066

5 - Nobles - Not French, but Anglo-Norman; Clergy - Latin

Extra Credit: Neither French nor German, but Frisian

6 - 1238

7 - Lumbini in the kingdom of Magadha

8 - Quig

9 - Puppet Government of the Japanese set up in NE China in 1931

Extra Credit: Vishnu and Kami
