Custom Leaderhead Development Thread

Okay maybe a stupid question im not to sure since for a person without the knowledge of you guys who made the 2 leaderheads above, is far beyond a normal "noob" with little or no experience. But here goes.

Are your'll by any chance going to or intend to make like a tutorial or guide on how to actually make a 3dleaderhead? ignoring the audio.

In that way other Modders can attempt to create leaders if that is possible would be awesome.
Or maybe not even like that perhaps even through editing existing leaders via skin tone(complexion) size of the leaderhead, and beard and hair aswell as other facial features and clothing could just be adjusted. A guide to do that would be great to and be helpful instead of making it from scratch.

And any idea when you guys may be able to do this by.
One more thing is it posisble to use the leaderhead from CIVIV mainly the head and torso and just merge it with a new body or rather the rest of the body legs and stomach. Can that be done?

AFAIK no one has done a custom Leaderhead yet so its tough to write a tutorial. I'm starting to work on it now and if I get there first I'll write the tutorial

Ekmek. Why we can't add nif file format to Civ 5? What files are responsible for viewing models in the game?

a firaxis custom(proprietary) version of granny is used in civ5. To put a civ4 lh in civ5 you have to convert it to a fbx and then import into nexus/nexusbuddy to become a grany file
I know.
How to add nif file format to Civ 5. I can add only gr2 format. And I want to add my LH in nif to Civ V without any exporting.

;)

Civ 5 uses gr2, not nif, so there is no way whatsoever now, or ever, that nif files will work in Civ 5. The only way to get a nif file into Civ 5 is to export to fbx and converted to granny. What you're asking is basically like saying 'I want a Left4Dead level to load up in worldbuilder.' they're just completely different and incompatible.

And if you're talking about 'modding the file format in' through a mod, that too is impossible. The graphics engine is not, and never will be, moddable to that extent. When we get the source code that is purely to the gameplay DLL code for the game logic / AI.

And I want to use nif file format! What files I need to change?

I'm not quite sure I understand what you expect. What you're asking is a bit like saying, "how do I get this Age of Empires model into Civilization V without converting it?"

The answer is you can't, because it's not a Civilization V model. Get it into Blender or some other 3D package and dump it out as an FBX.

How to add nif file format to XML? Why nif models doesn't work in Civ V?

Nif files don't work in Civ V because Civ V uses the Granny (*.gr2) format. If you want to know why they chose this format specifically, you'd have to ask them.

You cannot 'add' a NIF file to a mod without first converting it to Granny format.

Firaxis provided a mechanism for us to output Granny files:

1) Export an FBX file from your favourite 3D software
2) Import into Nexus, and export.

I don't know how to make this any clearer and I beg you, if your reply is going to be along the lines of, "but I want to use a NIF file", please - rather than clog up this thread with the same question over and over, accept the answer "you can't". It's that simple.

Ok. I understand this. But why we can't use nif? There is a script in the game, that shows models in gr2 format.
What is the name of the script?
It is the last qestion. Sorry...

ok guys.. you're my last hope on getting this done..since everyone turned their backs..

Seems to me like they still haven't figured out how to even do this, so it's probably a little early to be making requests.

Hello!
I know this thread has aged a bit. sorry for ressurecting it
Still, this is the best info on how to develop new leaderheads.
I was waiting to see if anyone would develop a complete guide.
Is there any chance that in the near future we (mere mortal artists such as myself) will be able to create leaderhead mods?
I've been working on a model for D.Pedro II of Brazil...
Even if we never get to put them into the game, I will just make a nice mock up...
Here is how the model is going:
