A little, if SS wants to DM over the net. :p

EDIT: Forum games sound cool, but how? We just tell the DM major guidelines for how we act?

There's a free chatroom serivce... it's called Chatzy.

Perhaps we open a room there, and as long as we access it once in a while, it won't be shutdown.

It can roll die for us. :D Well, for the players anyway, as the results are public.

Though it does not support images... we'll need some way to share maps and things.

I remember CivCube started a game a while back that some of us participated in. It was fun, but it died out. It's just too hard to get that many people together online regularly over the time period it takes to play a game of D&D.

Think about how long it takes to get anything done in a PnP game. You hang out all day/night, and when it's time to go you look back and realize you really didn't get that far. Now imagine that you're playing online, and every time any one does anything, everyone else has to post what they're doing. You basically "move" like once a day, at best.

I'd be willing to give it another shot, especially since I've already got that other character floating around somewhere here at CFC, but I'd recommend that you start by being very specific about how you're going to play: what are rule version; who's "rolling" the "dice"; if you're going to use dice at all or if it's going to be more story-based; stuff like that. It would help if everyone started off on the same page.

I'll find the link to that other game we did so you can see what I mean . . .

Linky.

I played it once back when I was like 8 or 9, frankly I didnt care about the game, i just wanted to play with the figures

havent since then though, i'd love to just to see if its still fun but my friends are very anti-nerdish

Yes, I play, and have been into it for some time...1st edition AD&D and Red Box Basic D&D were my start. I have a large collection of materials, both on computer and in hard copy, and am purchasing the entire TSR product line on ESDs, which comes in at less than $9000.

I like it. I like it a lot.

I remember that red box basic set. That and the "choose your own adventure" novels were my introduction . . .

Oooh, a D&D game on the forums? I would DEFINITELY play. It would take quite a while longer than normal D&D, and I wouldn't exactly call it the fastest game to begin with. How would combat work? Each person posting an image of where they move and such? I hope this actually gets going, and doesn't die due to lack of intrest.

I'd definitely be in on a DnD game.
Just don't make me the band-aid (you'd get it if you've ever been stuck as a cleric)

Ahh, the red box set . . . That brings back memories. I think mine came with "The Village of Hommlet."
I don't remember what mine came with. I remember "The Keep on the Borderlands" was "B2", but I don't remember the title of "B1". I remember it being underground (sooo helpful, I know) and there was a room with a lot of pools containing different substances, one of which was dry ice. It also featured Shriekers in a subterranean jungle type room which made them really hard to find . . .

It'll die due to lack of interest. But a lot of concessions would have to be made for a forum based game. Any idea of figurines is right out (which we never used back in the day anyway). Also rolling dice is pretty much pointless, since only one person could ever see each result (unless we went to a different forum, as has been suggested). It'd almost have to be more story-based.

Temple of the Frog?

Doesn't sound familiar, but it's been so long I'm not sure anything would. I think the background color of the cover was a deep brown . . .

Googling yields "In Search of the Unknown". That doesn't sound familiar either, but I'm pretty sure it was it.

I always tried it, but never had the proper resources to get into a game.

I play D+D on a weekly basis, as well as RIFTs, another RPG with a subpar suystem but AMAZING setting.

If you guys want to do a forum-based D+D game, may I suggest www.dndonlinegames.com ?

I play tehre, and they have forums for everything from rules discussion to solo games. They also have the 3.5 SRD, which is a database of the core rules, so books are not needed.
