DaftNES 3: Alternate-World Fresh Start

The Fall of the Warrior Kings

After years of unity in En Corthan under the rule of Arthoc and his descendants a new era begins. Arthoc and his descendants never brought war to the north like the people had hoped. Even if during the reign of the Warrior Kings they prospered and now had chariots. The people wanted more they wanted to unite their homeland.

So began the revolts along the coast the lands once the strongest supporters of the Warrior Kings. It was a woman that lead this revolt she was a hunter. Her name was Juletha (Woman of Land) She earned her name by being the greatest voice for unity during the last reign of Arthoc the Tenth of the Warrior Kings. Finally when the King had it proclaimed that their would never be war with the north. She aroused her followers for war on the King.

They gathered a huge army of 70% of the tribes. Juletha mounted a chariot and grabbed a spear and said the words that would earn her a place in the history of En Corthan. She said "Let today our lands be united under the stars as a place of Peace!". The army of the King was smaller but they were defending a barricaded hill in the center of Zamara. It was 500 versus 100. The king's last known words before the battle began were "Let it be what happens today be the will of Luna or else let my soul be damned to burn in the sun forever!"

The army charged the barricade. Juletha's chariot was destroyed as it rammed into a wall of spears and wooden palisade. She jumped over the barricade with spear ready and thrust it into every soldier of the King she saw. Finally the dust cleared and Juletha was dead her head on the spear of the King while the King had her spear lodged through his stomach. A warrior had done that after finding Juletha dead. His name was Marcion (Hunter Knowledge)
and for his heroic deed the remaining people of En Corthan had him crowned the New King.

He began a series of "reforms" first was that all settlements would be made like the one where the last King had made his final stand. Also he declared that there would be war with the north! He also setup once again the system of marching in the armies which had been lost since the rule of Arthoc's first heir with it He said "We shall conquer the north!". The culture of En Corthan went from that of greed to that of civil duty as they now felt that instead of for themselves they would do it for their King; of knowledge!

OOC: A bit haphazard maybe and short but it covers the changes that will happen between update 1 and update 2.

OOC; Why haven't my cattle-herding allies' military unit recovered yet?

Hamdi is empty! And I guess I lied to you, sorry :( BUT, you could just go and take it back.

Yeah, but now I have to do it with the sad fact that not only I was lied to AND with my empire's integrity in shatters, but now I have to do it knowing that my mod can't tell the difference between "each" and "EAST".

@lopaz great story :)

@alex CAUSE U SUKC, also they just fought in a scuffle with the Halkska, also disease! DEATH STALKS THE LAND.

I'll take control of the Hulukap if that is possible?

Well I guess so, yes. Honestly I've never been good with that sort of thing, anagrams and swapped words and stuff.

I'll take control of the Hulukap if that is possible?

Sure thing, just as long as you know I will be NPCing the Hubrian remnants with the goal of destroying Hulukap utterly :)

EDIT: but swapping like that would not be cool later on in the game, I wish to say.

I accept your offer of a blood alliance you will have our chariots and our marching forces when ever you call! For we shall be powerful together!

Daft, can I get a diplo reply please? :) [Posts 137 and 139, for reference.] Also this would be the ideal Shahanar color.

@Omega: Shelve the emo-rage. If you had attacked a desert, your warriors would have died, or returned and tried to attack places with plunder anyways. That's just how raiding works. And...did you attack the guys you were allied with? Generally betrayal will make people want to fight you more. I don't know the full situation, but, these things sometimes happen in history. We gotta roll with the punches.

About the update:

1- Didn't you say that within a territory, location didn't matter? Surely by that logic, I should be able to attack targets in the territory without risk of being cut off?

2- To quote my "New Orders" (I changed my mind between sending them and the update):

I don't think (given the "settlements aren't located" rule) Dreadnaught can cut me off with his ships, but if he can original orders apply.

He did cut me off with his ships. So why didn't my original orders apply?

Amelnorin, Highwatch: A convoy of golden-armored soldiers walked through the streets of the city as dusk fell upon it, the falling sun shining briefly as a last farewell to the world till morn rose again. Their cloaks trailed behind them, their pikes in one hand, shields in the other, they made their way up to the Highking's Tower, their plated boots scraping against the cobblestone roads. Their helms, normally carried in their arms, or simply discarded in favor for the protection of a heavy fur cloak, were upon their heads, and shined in the final light of the evening sun. The town guardsmen, less elaborately-clothed than their House counterparts, made their rounds grimly as ever, removing drunks from bars, and settling disputes. Amelnorin was yet again settling into the monotony of another night. But change was afoot in the city, and it came in the hands of the House-guards.

The Highking's Tower was a quiet and basic dwelling, embellished nearly only on the interior. In it hung tapestries depicting the young and first Highking of the Vethmenari in his glorious victories over the Houses of Ethgerl and Olpon. In the tapestries, the Highking was depicted as he was six years ago; full of life and ambition. When he set out from the province of Ithnille to unite his people in the name of his House, Quentinel, he had already proven his mettle as one of Quentinel's greatest sons. Now, the glorious conqueror, the Uniter, was buried in work and politics. There was a time, not too long ago, when were their any questions to be settled the great and powerful Highking-to-be would raise his pike in the air, and his legions would follow, eager to bring about a new age of prosperity. No longer.

The convoy, led by a man slightly taller than the rest, arrived at the door of the Kingspire. Making the customary Vethmenari salute, the clenched fist hit upon the heart, they were granted entry. Up and up they scaled the winding stairs to the top of the tower, a room heated only by a fire that now crackled and began to die as did the sun. There were no windows in this room, the Highking's chambers. Where there might have been were tapestries. Elaborate creations, of some of the Vetharil's greatest seamstresses, meant to glorify and commemorate Alquendith the Uniter, Vetharil's first Highking. But despite these tapestries, the look on the face of the message-bearer at the head of the convoy was not of glorious exultation. It was worry, nay, perhaps fear.

Bowing, he handed the Highking a piece of paper, and departed, along with his escort. The Highking threw another log on the fire, and set himself to reading the paper. His eyes darted right and left across the words...

"This letter is addressed to Alquendith, the glorious Uniter, Highking of Vethmenari. It is sealed, should anyone but the Highking himself open it, the penalty is many years in the bowels of the Undercells. the letter continued, after being opened, "Milord, I, Vengaril Menothel, bring you word from the Northrealm. From the farthest northern mountains, those areas we deemed impassable, has emerged a fearful warrior people. We have not been able to make contact with these tribesmen, and since their emergence, several of the farmhands on my provincial estate have gone missing. We request the presence of Vethmenari Legion expertise in dealing with the return to us of those abducted, as well as our grain supply. Signed, Vengaril Menothel of the House of Pelgenn, Provincial Magistrate of the Northrealms.

The Highking grimaced at the letter, and stared into the flames of the fire as they slowly died.

I just want to stress that whatever the outcome for our factions, we all appreciate the (exponentially expanding) work you do on these updates, and we are awed by the quality and the frequency, which are among the best in the forum. Just saying. :D

Grandfather White Beard, in between doing curls with boulders, agrees with the girly man.

Waitwaitwait -- Cannibals? They better not be anywhere near Vethmenari.

I appreciate the effort you put into this Daft, but I'm gonna drop out. I was on the wrong page for most of it, thanks for the effort though and keep up the good work.

To be more specific: I thought we were still in a quasi-tribal phase, and I didn't anticipate someone being able to buy thousands of mercenaries, sailing them to the island, and having some sort of logistical means to provide for them. I thought my army was 12 guys with bows and arrows. But it doesn't matter.

Wellesly can have my stuff or whatever, it doesn't matter to me, you can say I surrendered or something.

Are we supposed to post our orders in the thread?

Well most of us have been probably a bad idea when we get to war actions with each other but till I do that I plan to post my more generic orders which don't really involve anyone us after that though I'll pm daft.

Ahh, I see.
