Come clean Danny boy, what's the deal with the MP. And please don't try to blow smoke up are collective ass. Or ya'll at Firaxis to busy figuring out tomorrows history question of the day? Remember, we know you check this forum out, so a prompt response would be appreciated.

There are SO many other things I'd like to know about before this paltry issue...

More details about the actual trade in the game- does it generate coins at all or do you just exchange the goods for coins in your treasury that come from the tiles you work as "commerce."

More details about movement rates across the times... with Chinese Riders at 3 and battleships at (from a paltry screenshot) apparently 4? Something seems amiss...

More details about espionage.

The full poop on nukes.

What about environmental damage?

Natural disasters? In or out?

Naval unit zones of control?

WILL the AI USE aircraft carriers more effectively this time around!?

and on and on... LOADS of stuff Mr. Magaha *I'D* like to know about before I'd take you to task over why you guys "failed" to include MP or not in the game... sheesh... Instead, I'd like to say to Firaxis thanks for working so hard on trying to reinvent the wheel of computer gaming here (so to speak) and actually making the Civ series into something new, and I hope BETTER than before, and even MORE fun!

(and I have faith MP'll be out soon enough)

I agree (at least from what I can discern from the previous post) with the last point mentioned.
I would rather that the folks at Firaxis spend more time refining the game mechanics and dynamics of the SP version. The MP will only be good if the fundamentals of the SP game play are perfected, and can be succesfully transfed over to MP.

Besides, I consider the problem of the "yellowing" of the screen shot we have seen more of a problem. If you are unfamiliar with this problem, check out the thread titled "Too Much Yellow".

Both aspects (MP and "perfected" underlying mechanics) are cruicial. I disagree with Thunderfall (I think it was) who says he'd rather wait till 2002Q1 and get a completed product rather than take SP on schedule and wait for an MP patch. I can't wait!

The only question is, if I was playing Civ III SP only, would I continue to play Civ II MP while awaiting the patch? Time will tell!

Whatever.

This thread was a question for Dan, guys. What's the big deal, anyway? If you prefer SP to MP, then don't play MP....geez.

We know some people prefer the ai to the chalenge of unpredictable humans. Some of us prefer MP and think a game shouldn't be released until it's complete!

I'm not buying until it's comfirmed MP can be delivered via a patch or something....i don't want to pay twice. I think they should have waited, and maybe that way they could make sure more of the bugs have been taken care of by then.

I just feel like a Cubs' fan.....wait 'til next year.

Be glad for all of the information we already have. Isn't part of the fun the surprise? Do you really want to know every friggin' detail before you open the box? Chill...!smoke!

I understand, but I do not agree with the theory that if Firaxis waits until spring of next year, theta they will have had a chance to iron out some more bugs. More likely, they will have had no net change in the number of bugs, as everytime they fix one that alreday existed, another will arise from the construction of the MP aspect. Im not saying that this will happen, but that it is possible. It is very risky to claim, in light of this, that the game will have fewer bugs. It could happen that it would end up with more. Besides, all of you MP fans would be torturing the SP folk, making us wait until your version is complete.
Anyway, all of this is silly. I't might happen that Firaxis will release a free patch. You never know. But, in the same manor of thinking, maybe they won't. In the end, its a risk that someone will have to take.

I thought this was simply a request for information. This isn't a campaign to change release dates or policies, it is a small group of fans asking for an official answer to the multiplayer question.

If there is no answer, or only a partial answer, we'd like to know that too. Just tell us, straight up, what's going on with the multiplayer aspect of the game. Strong rumor says it isn't going to be in the intial release. If this is true, tell us so. You don't even need to explain why, though explanations are welcome.

If you're going to make the multiplayer later, is it going to be sold, in a box, on a shelf, like Civ II MP Gold, or will it be a free add on for those who bought the game when it first came out? Again, explanations are not necessary, we just want to know what we can expect from an official source.

And as to those who have seemed to attack this question, do you actually NOT want to know. If so, don't read the thread. It's easy really.

No, it isn't that simple. The reason I am fed up with this type of thread is that allover Apolyton (more so than here) there's just been too much abise piled up against Firaxis. What get's my goat is that people suddenly forget that someone is working hard on this game, and to abuse them and harrass them is just uncool.

Also, the piracy thread that broke out over at Apolyton is disgusting- as someone who is an artist and has at times depended upon my ability to sell my copyrighted "product" it burns me up that people try to justify stealing from Firaxis by claiming Firaxis is "screwing them over" by not including MP. The easier solution is to just not play the game (like just don't read this thread) and don't d/l it for free somewhere.

This website is MUCH more mature than a lot of the geek-thieves over at Apolyton, but it just burns me up that people think they have the right to hold Dan and the Firaxis crew up to such angry scrutiny.

That's all. Upon re-reading the originating post to this thread, I see I may have overreacted to it and don't mean to offend the original poster, I probably jsut had some bile in my throat still from the ugliness over at Apolyton- heh- it ought to Apoligizeton.

Dearmad...maybe you should try decaf.

Anyway, this thread was merely an attempt to get a question answered that I feel many would like to know. In no way was I attempting to abuse or harass anyone, and quite frankly, I don't believe I did. MP is an important aspect of the game to many of us and it's availability could decide whether we purchase it or not.

I find it hard to believe that our good friends at Firaxis were so busy working on other game functions that they did not contemplate the MP. Questions about their motives to exclude MP have surfaced. Is it a ploy to squeeze another $50 out of us with a later release of MP? Well, we'll have to wait and see and hold judgement till then. But if it is, I say shame on Firaxis. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

One more thing Dearmad, I'm glad you voiced your opinion on the subject, that's what this forum is for. But for us die-hard MP'ers, excluding the MP functions is like a humiliating kick in the crotch.

If Firaxis wants to stay afloat, it would behoove of them to provide a free upgrade to those who purchased the SP version. maybe a coupon in the box or some online reg
