Danes plot to claim North Pole

More typical Danish colonialism/expansionism.

There are disputes between Canada and Greenland, so an argument over the North Pole wouldn't surprise me, but Canada has plenty of oil already so there's no need to quibble. Although.. monopolies are good :mischief:

You'll never get it, as it is Canadian territory.

Bring it on, I say.

You do realize that Denmark is better equiped to fight an Arctic war than Canada is, yes?

Um, does it count as land? Its only a sea with ice..

How can you colonize a sea?

Anyway, good for denmark! :)

Is this what this thread is about ?

Who said anything about war?

But, just to humour you:

I'd say Canada is better equipped, wouldn't you?

Canada would crush Denmark in a conventional war on warm waters.

However, in an Arctic War, Denmark has the advantage. The Canadians, for all the jokes we make about them having a cold country, do not have much in the way of Arctic equipment, such as icebreakers and the sort. Denmark may not be as well equipped in general, but in terms of Arctic equipment they are.

Canada has the ability to rapidly establish airbases at Alert and other small Arctic towns. Our submarines are superior. We would crush them regardless.

Besides, there's the American airbase at Thule.

What has this to do with the Dutch ?
Or don't you know that Denmark and The Netherlands are different countries ?

No, no. I know. I was in a hurry when I typed that, and wrote Dutch instead of Danish. They both start with D's. Lack of attention on my part.

What were the conclusion after the last Canada vs Denmark discussion? The one about the small island off the coast of greenland..

Kafka, It's the Faroe Islands that is seeking independance. Greenland is surviving on money given to it by Denmark, and they don't want independance yet, as that would meen lower living standards. Besides, the bonds between Denmark and Greenland are very strong, many Greenlanders live in Denmark and vice verse. I know, Im half Greenlander my self :)

I think Greenland & Canada should join the EU, then the North Pole can become a symbol of unity, instead of symbolising disputes over desolate land :p

I've rather snorkle in vomit than join the EU. Nothing says stagnation like a whole new level of beurocracy.

That's OK, we just want your oil anyway. :mischief:

i would hate to join the EU it would just show that canada is a puppet of the old colonial powers and i wouldn't want that, colonialism=bad =Crush, kill, destroy

I would think Canada has a better claim as some of our national sovergin northern islands are alot closer then greenland.
