Covered with forests and blessed with rolling hills, the land of Brittany is as close to a Heaven on Earth as possible. Enjoying a natural defensive position on a peninsula between the Bay of Biscay and the Channel it has very short borders. The weather is excellent being neither too hot, too cold or too wet.
With the beautiful terrain and long coasts it is indeed a wonderful place to live. Populated mainly by fishermen, farmers, it does still have an urban population in the administrative centres of Nantes and Rennes. An extensive salt and stone industry is also present, though production of Menhirs haven't been done for generations. Fiercely proud the people here try to stick to their old ways though they do recognize their close relationship with the Franks.
As the only part of Gaul, the region of Brittany, or Amorica as the Romans called it, was not completely conquered as a small village held out against the surrounding Roman presence causing the would-be conquerors no end of grief.
After the Romans had left, the region gained new life through the arrival of many Britons, leading to the development of the Breton language which is still in use. In fact, Brittany can be roughly translated as little Britain.
The small, independent parts of Brittany were eventually unified into the Duchy of Brittany and later the Kingdom of Brittany. The pride and independence of the region caused the French kings many headaches and despite being conquered, the spirit was never broken and Brittany emerged even stronger.
As for the future, none can tell what will happen. Will the proud region continue opposing the Franks in order to protect its way of life or will it seek to force the neighbours to join with them and thus, eventually, rule over the ruler?
OOC: Not the best, but I figured I should come up with something
