Well I finally started a huge map milk game.

On Chieftain of course, since there I can push the limits of the game without getting involved in Sid-style wars. ;)

The Mayans are boring, so I went with Sumeria.

My opponents are:
Byzantines
Babylon
Germany
Greece
Russia
Korea
England
Netherlands

(See if you can figure out who is missing in that list before you read the next post.)

It only took 100,000 iterations of MapFinder to get a start I liked.

Welcome back, I'm looking forward to following this!
Seems like you're off to a good start with 2 SGLs already.

You have much more patience than I do! Care to disclose what the domination limit of this map is?

The Mayans? Good luck and have fun!:)

The answer is that none of the civs were Industrious.

The Mayans are bad, because they can't build the Pyramids before Republic.
But as a different civ, I can't build the Pyramids until I buy or research Masonry.
So the logical thing to do is get a Masonry SGL, which means no industrious civs.

My priorities were:
1. Masonry SGL
2. High domination limit / High food

Oh yes, the dominiation limit is 4573. :mischief:

10AD Update:

I went through the middle ages with a 300gpt deficit - no bankruptcy penalty on chieftain is fun.

90BC: Enter industrial age, trade for Steam Power
10BC: Rush Bach's Cathedral with my third SGL

Score: 681
Cities: 195
Settlers: 45
Workers: 358

Are you saying that the chance for SGL will happen IFF (if and only if) your civ discover a new tech that no other civs on the map (whether you meet them or not) have discovered it yet? Please confirm! I wasn't aware of that. Thanks!:)

Wait a minute! That's the biggest limit I have heard so far and your start was on a big island too. Very good map!:) I can't wait to see the final score.:)

Yes, you must be the first civ in the world to a tech in order to have a chance at a SGL. Techs from huts don't count.

Its not the biggest domination limit you have heard.. the map I lost that caused my request for the save all maps over a certain limit in mapsaver was 4583 :p

Sorry, I blame that on my short term memory.:( Seriously, I don't remember seeing any limit that big.

@punkbass2000: Thanks for the info!:)

I can't get my masonry SGL, and I was wondering...
did you put on any goody huts? Perhaps the AIs are getting it while I research?

EDIT : Did you or did you not have sex with that barbarian?! :mischief:

You need to be first to masonry to get SGL.
that means definetly no industrious and HOPEFULLY noone researches it before you.
Huts can definetly ruin your day, though its still luck.
Hes playing on chieftain, so the AIS pop less huts and research slower...

Oh, well, there goes my no.1 chieftain score... ;)

Good luck Dave! :goodjob: on the start sequence (great idea to play without IND civs, for the chance to get a masonry SGL. With that early pyramids and that domination limit you should have no problems (besides finding the time to play) getting a new all-time high on chieftain!

Hi Dave!

It has been awhile since your update. How are you doing lately? Just wondering...
