Dawn of Russians

I oppose this motion. Farmers are the backbone of every great empire and we would be foolish to neglect their needs.

Farmers are currently the backbone of our economy, but they are too poor to pay high taxes.

Ok, it seems that if I combine all the ideas above, we can have a good economic policy.

Farms in undevelopped and developping cities (like Kazan), cottages in developped (like Sankt-Peterburg). Delivering of workers where they are needed most. Markets and grocers to all developped cities. Eastward expansion when we have a good income. Caricyn and Moskva can play a supportive role (train units to keep our population happy).

It requires carefull management, but advanced states require advanced economies and efficient management. I think we can succeed.

Hail Glorious Tsar!

I represent the last tribes of the Cumans. Although we have long claimed ownership of the steppes around the black sea our once mighty tribes have been humbled and scattered by the Mongols. We turn to you, the conqueror of the Mongols, and offer our allegiance and service in return for settling rights around Krasnodar and the lands south. We also humbly ask for a Graf of our own to represent us in the council.

Khan Otrok

(OOC: I would like to join and take control of Krasnodar please. I can send a recommendation for build orders later if accepted)

I'd like for Kazan to focus on production mostly later on. Once basic infrastructure is in place you can use it to train military units, missionaries, spies and the odd worker or settler. I'd like for every riverside tile in its BFC to have a farm. Chop riverside forests but leave the dry ones in place until I say otherwise.

Dear baron Otrok,

You are already accepted as member in the royal council as baron. You will gain the title of Graf soon. I would like to know the build orders. (If possible soon, because I will probably update today).

EDIT:
I propose we send the farmers to the plains leaving the grassland for people we can tax heavily.
That's the standard strategy. However, farming grassland early on to help development can give a significant advantage.

It will focus in population development at the beginning. Kazan has a lot of plains, so it will run farms anyway. When it becomes large, it will be productive, because of plains.

If we let our cities grow then they will become economic hubs, instead of spreading the wealth and stunting growth. I propose only farms until cities stop growing. I wish for only mines and farms around Uglish.

If the work boat is not already finished then carry on producing it. Then can we build a monastery (or temple if cant build monastery). Followed by a lighthouse/harbor (The +1 food from water tiles, I cant remember which does which from vanilla and RFC, sorry)

I would also like to borrow a worker to build a pasture on the sheep by Krasnodar. What is the military situation by the southern borders?

This era was relatively peaceful and full of diplomacy.

Diplomacy:

Peter managed to establish trade with an iberian kingdom at last. Portugal was a lot more friendly than Spain.

French Champagne became popular in Russia. Russian traders exported nice fur coats to buy this french drink.

Scandinavian forces wanted to control Karelia. They will probably send an army to take Sankt-Peterburg.

Mongols lacked cow meat and milk and payed to buy it. Peter increased the price.

Vietnam contacted us and they asked what currency is. Peter decided to teach these people elementary market economics.

Chinese opened their markets to us and Peter signed a new deal to boost our economy.

Inner affairs:

Scandinavians sent their laughable army. Sankt-Peterburg was well defended to clam down the worried citizents. Moreover, our army was well prepared against mounted units, because of the mongol wars. It was a humiliating defeat of Scandinavian army.

Orthodoxy spread in Gurev and Totma.

Russian discovered music. People started to dance and drink in festivities, a tradition that stay alive until today.

Peter didn't manage to advance Russia's economy. It required a lot of workforce, that was absent. However, it opened Russia to new markets and managed to consolidate his rule in the inner.

Tsar anoints baron Otrok graf of Krasnodar!

I'm sorry but I started playing after seeing this post. There is a longbowman defending your city. A worker is gifted to you, pasture built and workboat built. Currently, a harbour (the building that helps with the sea-food) is being built. I will set a monastery in the production queue next time.

Graf Matthias I:
Wall built. Worker (one) trained. Orthodox Cathedral in the production qeueu.

Graf Bigfoot:
Workers are building cottages in near river tiles cutting down the forests. Forge built.

Graf Caterpillar:
Workers farm grasslands to help your city develop.

Grafinya Knoedelkova:
Granary, forge, barracks in the production qeue. You have been lent some workers to farm your lands, your city can develop quickly.

Graf TheNoob:
Your city trains armies and workers. We need a lot of them.

Royal council:

(Vocabulary mistake: a graf's territory is called "Grafstvo". Grafinya is the female title.)

Improving the land didn't go as expected. Our economy is based on exports. We need a lot of workforce. At least 3 workers per city. Probably I will use your cities to produce workers next time. Moreover, waiting to develop our cities will take a lot of time. It may be better to expand first in the east, have in mind that new cities need even more time to develop.

Kingdom of Denmark declared war on us. Sankt-Peterburg is well defended. I estimate it doesn't need more army (Uglish is near, and in an emergency we can use Kievan army). Shall we let them or send some units to pillage their countryside? Good thing is that we have a galley and two triremes in Sank-Peterburg, so probably we can make an amphibious assault. (Well done graf Bigfoot!) Conquering a city seems difficult since we lack siege units. Training a proper city-conquering army will consume resources and time, so I propose to avoid it.

And I propose to discover gunpowder, required for military tradition.

I think these two pictures tell everything:

It is fine, I think you did everything I asked for anyway :goodjob:

After the monastery, I leave it you to decide whether Krasnodar can/needs to build a worker. I would also like to add a Granary to the build queue.

Regarding Denmark as a Cuman I would urge you to send your horseman to pillage their land and take their wealth for our own. Warriors grow soft without battle and if there is a chance we can lure some Danish out to open battle then we should take it.

Almighty Tsar, I have heard of your glorious struggles. As the representative of my old Parsi people, I would like to offer our services and help you in attempting to dominate the cities of Samarkand and Merv in exchange for Gurev.

OOC: Yeah, didn't have a better backstory on my mind, I just want to play around a bit and see if I can conquer Samarkand. So for now I'm demanding Gurev, but if you build a more productive city I'll move there.
