DBear02--Jerusalem

Good job with juggling the research, leha! I was really worried we wouldn't get sistines at the end of my turn set.

If MV hasn't reported in by the time I get home from work (6pm EST), I'll take it to keep the game going.

SAVE

I've read somewhere AI usually don't build armies with MGLs, but what else can they do with it? Rush worker?

Got it. Will be able to play either late tonight or early tomorrow.

Lurk....

Hey, I tried to d/l the last save but it seems to have been deleted. Care to give a brother a hand?

De-lurk

I need to be skipped. My computer is on the brink of a crash. I'll take my turn the next time around.

Pre-Turn: MM Jerusalem to get it to max production and growth. This gets Jerusalem KT down to 19 turn (it was at 34 turns). Adjust so all of our cities our growing. In other words I remove a lot of the scientist. Set slider at 1/7/2. Coventry is at 10 spt with library in 4 with no wastage.

Note: I plan on maximizing our population.

IT: Americans are building KT.

1@530 AD: Hastings switches to Aqueduct. Canterbury is at +10 food with growth every 4 turns.

IT: Zulu’s ask for MA versus the Germans, we decline. India building KT.

2@540 AD: Zzzz

IT: India and Germany sign an MA versus the Zulu. Spain builds Sun Tzu’s. German’s building Leo’s and KT. India building KT. Zulu building Leo and KT.

York Aqueduct>Worker. Snottingham Longbowman>Longbowman. Oxford Library>Marketplace.

3@550 AD: Set slider 0/8/2 after trades. Snottingham switches to harbor for trade route.

America: We get Silks, Incense, 19 gpt, and 19 gold; we give Theology.
Spain: We get 2 gpt and 31 gold; we give The Republic
Germany: We get 4 gpt and 43 gold; we give Theology
India: We get 1 gpt and 47 gold; we give Theology

IT: Coventry Library>Marketplace

4@560 AD: Zzzz

York Worker>Library

5@570 AD: Zzzz

IT: America completes KT. Cascade to Leo’s.

Jerusalem switches to Leo’s.

6@580 AD: Zzzz

IT: Canterbury Library>Longbowman

7@590 AD: Zzzz

IT: Snottingham Harbor>Galley

8@600 AD: Zzzz

IT: We get this:

Followed by this:

Bombay_silks.JPG

Bombay switches to Temple and I begin starving the pop.

9@610 AD: Zzzz

IT: Hastings Aqueduct>Marketplace. Barbaria Courthouse>Library

10@620 AD: Zzzz

Notes:
-At our current settings we will overrun Education by only 2 beakers! So I would suggest not changing any scientist.
-Jerusalem will grow in 3 turns. Once it does take the citizen off the irrigated tile and move him to one of the mined grassland. Make sure the new citizen also works a mined grassland. This will put us at max population making 17 spt. Once a worker is free we should mine the mountain to make it 19 spt.
-Next turn after Education is learned switch Canterbury around. Currently I have a taxman and a clown so we don’t waste beakers. Putting the citizens to work on the watered floodplains allows Canterbury to have seven scientists if we wish to go that way (with only 1 spt). If we prefer keeping Canterbury productive we can still do that and keep several scientist.
-Liverpool’s northern tile is a floodplain tile and has a worker building irrigation there.
-Starve Bombay down to 1 pop than use the watered tiles to build it back up.
-Snottingham has a harbor and is currently building a galley. I would suggest we use a couple galleys to get known water routes to Germany, Zulu, and Spain so we can trade lux’s.
-Water York so we can get it to max pop ASAP. Currently I have a worker in that area doing just that.
-We need to build libraries and marketplaces.

Comments/Rant: I haven’t looked at the past couple of saves so was extremely shocked when I started my turnset. Several times it has been mentioned that for a 20k game the 20k city needs to stay at max pop and be at max production. When I began my turnset Jerusalem was at size 11 and shrinking and had two citizens set at scientist! What in the heck are people doing? Come on people, please pay attention! In your 20k city never set a citizen as a specialist when they could be working tiles, at least when something other than wealth is being built.
In 430 AD York would finish the aqueduct in 14 turns and it had two scientist! I adjusted it where it would complete the aqueduct in 8 turns (shaved off 6 turns) and kept it at zero growth. By the time I started my turnset York was no longer building an aqueduct (instead a marketplace) and still had the two scientist! As a matter of fact there were several size 2, 3, and 5 cities with scientist! Why on earth would someone have a size 2 city with a scientist? In my experience (I don’t have much to be honest) I always get cities at maximum pop before I start relegating them as specialist, never at size 2 and 3. And those same cities had no growth at all in the past 10 or so turns!

I apologize if I have offended anyone I’m just shocked at how this game is going. Maximizing population and production is typical in most games and it just doesn’t seem to be happening in this one at all. I also wonder if everyone in our team knows how to play a 20k game?

I removed nearly every scientist (except Canterbury), did a few trades, worked a few tiles, raised our pop, and will still got Education quicker than what it was set at with all the scientist in every city. Canterbury is on watered floodplain so it makes a nice science farm or money farm for that matter.

I went back and reread some of the write-ups and noticed where Leha stated he slowed down production in Jerusalem to time our pre-build with Sistine. The way it looks once Theo was learned and the pre-build switched, production was not set back at maximum.

Again, I apologize for the rant it just seems not everyone is familiar with 20k games.

@DBear: You're up.

Got it, will play tomorrow.

I will be back up and running by tomorrow evening. (I hope)

0) 620: Switch Bombay around to max shields for temple while starving them to minimize flip. Switched Canterbury to settler, as there's vacant land 2e, 1se of Barbarian. Yes, that's uncomfortably close to the Germans, but we need more cities. We also need to think about moving the capital so London can get wonders via castle prebuilds. Canterbury is productive and is central, so after the settler, I'll do that. Note to Methos, Canterbury would've rioted had the clown and taxman been working. Open an embassy to Spain, I want to know where they are.

1) 630: Americans and Indians still fighting each other. Learn ed, start astro. Turn science up to 90%, we can get Astro in 14. Starving down Bombay as planned. Pull a couple longbows from Coventry to move to York as MPs.

2) 640: Forest chopped near Coventry. India inexplicably sends a settler pair near San Fran where the Americans capture it. Canterbury settler-->palace. If there is strenuous objection, this can be changed to a uni. Settler 3se.

3) 650: Coventry market-->uni. As planned in the preturn notes, Jerusalem grows, switched to max production to 17/turn. Another thing we should think about--getting out of Feudalism as our cities grow larger. Settler 2se, send spear from Coventry--can't send any more as that would cause unhappiness. Stop the starvation of Bombay at 2 so it can produce the temple faster.

4) 660: Forest near Oxford chopped. Americans want RoP and alliance vs. India. No, thanks, we're staying out of it. Snottingham galley-->settler. There is unclaimed land nw of the American peninsula.

5) 670: India finally takes San Fran, killing 3 muskets. This causes repercussions as we lose our incense and many of our larger cities riot. Deal with the new overlords of San Fran by trading them Ed for 170 + 44/turn + incense. Trade it to America for 110 + 34/turn. Germany pays 79 gold, all they have. The others have nothing to offer. Liverpool longbow-->lib. Upgrade units in the towns that have rax. At 90% science, 10% lux we are making 58/turn.

6) 680: Spain and Arabia are at peace. Er, where's Arabia? Dover built, starts temple.

7) 690: Workers road between Barbaria and Dover. Workers road and irrigate plains near Coventry.

8) 700: York lib-->musket.

9) 710: Snottingham settler-->lib. Newcastle lib-->musket. Oxford market-->worker. Load galley up with settler and longbow and start sailing.

10) 720: Dover connected by road. Forest chopped near Coventry.

11) 730: Oxford worker-->temple.

12) 740: Sailing to tip of America, ready to cross.

13) 750: We make the crossing and land. We make contact with Arabia, they are far behind in tech. Open an embassy. MM Bombay to get the temple in 2. As soon as it gets the temple, let it grow.

Note: I played some extra turns to get the dates to a round number. In general, keep making improvements. We are 2 from astro. Jerusalem will get Leo's in 15 and if that falls thru, Cop's will be available. Seriously consider whether we should get out of Feud or not. Also moving the capital to Canterbury. Hastings will get a market next turn. Units on 2nd continent should settle where you think best.

Darwin, if you're up and ready, it's yours.

True, but realize I've been using Canterbury as a science farm as in a large portion of the citizens were scientists. In other words, never a problem with rioting. I removed the scientist just before Education was learned so as not to waste beakers and earm something else.
