DBear02--Jerusalem

Don't think about Madrid. We can still burn it to ashes when the time comes. We need our City running. We should come out of the MA with 5 or 6 wonders, which should be enough. You usually get every wonder thereafter.

Something that I put in question is that we didn't rush a University in Jerusalem. We had the money for that.

:eek: So this is what you all talk about when several SG's all hit at once. Well, I have four I need to play tonight and this one is last on the list so we'll see what I can do. It may be tomorrow before I play it so we'll see.

Oh yeah, I got it. :sad:

Pre-Turn: Bring 3 cats, 3 longbows, and a musket to bear on Canterbury. Do some MM’ing. Coventry short-rushes to get a knight in one. Newcastle switches to Barracks after a quick short-rush. Oxford short-rushes to shave one turn off.

Arabia: We get Printing Press and 2 gold; we give Engineering
Spain: We get World Map, Wines, 33 gpt, and 165 gold; we give Music Theory
India: We get World Map, 21 gpt, and 162 gold; we give Music Theory
Germany: We get Ivory and a slave; we give Music Theory, World Map, and 27 gold

IT: Crusader whips our knight. German’s and Indian’s are building Bach’s.

Coventry Knight>Knight.

1@1010 AD: After some nail-biting action we manage to regain control of Canterbury. After looking at just how weak our military is I decide to involve India in the war. Granted the cost was high but I don’t believe we will survive on our own. Plus Germany doesn’t seem to be doing much on their end.

India: We get MA and RoP; we give same, World Map, 4 gpt, and 314 gold

IT: Bunch of elephants just passed through heading over to visit the Americans. Spanish are building Bach’s.

Hastings: University>Knight. Newcastle Barracks>Knight.

2@1020 AD: Move a small force towards Buffalo.

IT: India invades America on a grand scale. Germans send 3 AC and 4 knights towards us. I’m thinking we’re about to be betrayed.

Oxford Knight>Knight. Liverpool Barracks>Knight.

3@1030 AD: We fail in our attempt to take Buffalo.

IT: Argh!!! In my worry about a Germany betrayal I left Canterbury undefended. An American knight came out of nowhere and burned it to the ground! Buffalo finally falls to the German’s, after India, Germany, and we have been wailing on it for two turns. America is building Bach’s.

Bombay Knight>Knight. York Knight>Knight.

4@1040 AD: Hastings switches to Settler to rebuild Canterbury. We destroy the fool who razed Canterbury!

IT: Argh!! America captures Liverpool and York riots. Here’s the weird thing, even after both of these happen our people are happy with us and we build three more pieces onto our palace!?!

5@1050 AD: We take Liverpool back.

Okay, I think I’m done as well. I need to get ready for work plus things just don’t seem to be going very well. India has finally backed down on their invasion, in other words most of their units retreated. Germany has just started a major frontal invasion on America. I also haven’t done any MM’ing this turn so please look at everything. Hastings has one turn on a settler to rebuild Canterbury.

Sorry guys, a minor mistake costs us to lose Liverpool for a turn.

@MadViking: Looks like you probably should have kept playing. I not only lost a city but I got one burned to the ground.

Here's the save.

Sorry guys, was busy all weekend. I'll get this done tonight.

0) 1050: Damn, losing Canterbury really hurt. Not only was that going to be the new capital, it also reduces pressure on San Fran. We can still flip it, but we don't have as much pressure. Germany is turning into a monster, we may have a runaway AI here. We have HUGE unhappiness issues. Turn up lux to 40%, science to 50%. We can still get Econ in 4. Rush temple in Dover for culture and happiness. Change surplus workers into clowns to help happiness.

1) 1060: OK, what happened to the settlers by Aden? Why was Brighton built next to a volcano? Settler built, moves to ruins.

2) 1070: Germans take Miami. India has a horde of phants near Atlanta. Canterbury rebuilt, starts temple. We have no horses now, so we can't build new knights, but we can build knights with the builds we already started.

3) 1080: Indians take Atlanta. Cleary the Americans are no longer a threat, but we have to stay in war with the treaty. Germans have a SoD between Buffalo and Miami.

4) 1090: India and America make peace. Learn econ, start metal. Trade Econ to Germany for horses, metal + 19. Rush harbor in Brighton. Trade Econ to India for Nav, WM, 80+3gpt. Trade Econ to Spain for 70+ 23gpt. Couldn't get Demo or Military. We can get Military in 6. Any faster and we have rioting, I have to keep lux at 40%.

5) 1100: Dover expands. Brighton harbor-->temple. We capture Houston, killing two muskets and losing just one knight.

6) 1110: New York offers strong resistance to the Germans, as several knights and ancients die against its walls. The resistance in Houston is crushed, time to starve the blighters. Oxford knight-->aqua, switch Snottingham to market.

7) 1120: Germans switch targets and take Washington. Bombay knight--> market, York knight-->market.

8) 1130: India calls up to extort 30 gold. Since we have over 210, I give in. The last thing we need's another war. Spain is winning its war over backward Arabia.

9) 1140: Coventry settler-->bank. Rush market in Snottingham. Bombard New York. Trebs work, cats don't. Looks like only 2 muskets. I attack, but they have more and I don't have enough to finish. Chop forest near Oxford.

10) 1150: Germans take Seattle and New York. Learn military, start Physics. London builds Bach, starts Magellan. Both have same culture and Magellan is cheaper, though Smith is more useful. Snottingham market-->aqua. Build Leeds, starts lib. I can turn lux down to 30% now.

lurker's comment: looking better, DBear... much better

Agreed! But if India's extorting and Germany's rolling it would seem a plan for military production is needed in to discourage antisocial AI behaviour. :hammer:

BTW, when you begin to close in on a cultural victory, be it 100k or 20k, will the AI strike out in defense?

Delurk...

Didn't happen in DBear01. 'course by then I had a whole continent to myself, so there wasn't anything to worry about.

I have a couple of hours now, so let's play.

Preturn

Yes, Germany is really big.
Trade around WM, make 28 gold

IT

MA with Germany ends, to continue they ask too much, and there's no need either.
I was watching german forces moving, I think if they declare on us,
we'll be wiped off in a minute.

1160 AD (1)

Can't take Chicago, better to save forces, for any case.
Cycle our cities and change clowns to scientists where it is possible.
Outcome--> physics in 7 turns instead of 8.
Trade WM again, squeese 7 gold.
We're gonna be friends with everybody now, especially with our closest buddy Bismark.

IT

What the...?
Spain finishes Magellan.
Switch Jerusalem to Smith's, don't think it'll work tho.

1170 AD (2)

Sign with Bismark RoP. He agrees to sign it for free :eek:
Trade WM for 1 gold :)

IT

Sign peace with America for 9 gold and WM.
Suddenly all the people happy, I wonder why :)

1180 AD (3)

Newcastle cav-->market
Liverpool cav-->aqueduct
Lux -->10%, sci-->90%
physics in 4 turns
Check diplo, damn, Soain got physics.
Trade maps for 36 gold
I think at some point we have to raze Madrid, they have all wonders imaginable in one city

1190 AD (4)

Barbaria cav-->cav
Oxford Aqueduct-->cav
Trade WM for 3 gold

IT

We lose supply of wines and ivory
There's no way we can get it till we have physics.

1200 AD (5)

Patience guys, patience.

1210 AD (6)

Physics in one turn sci-->10%

1220 AD (7)

Get physics, I'd want to go for Magnetism, cause AI usually goes for Newton,
but I got a feeling we won't get Smiths, so we'll switch to Newton.
I will trade physics right now because we need luxes and money badly,
and because Spain will trade it anyway at first opportunity.
And first to get physics is.......Gandhi.
Gandhi one, Gandhi two....sold!! For incense, WM, 90 gold and 58 gpt.
Gandhi immediately becomes polite
BTW, sell Economics to Lincoln for WM and 40 gold, while he still can buy (1 city left)
Friend Bismark, are you willing to buy precious physics?
Sell physics to Bismark for 3 luxes and 4 gold. Despite Germany size it has ridiculously
small account.
Set research to 90% ToG in 7 turns

IT

That's it, no more America :cry:

1230 AD (8)

York market-->university
WM trade gives us 5 gold, not much.
Upgrade some knights hoping to scare big guys away.

1240 AD (9)

Hastings cav-->cav
Izabella is angry with us, I have no idea why.
WM trade don't brings us money this time.

IT

Everyone but us and arabs start ST

1250 AD (10)

Snottingham aqueduct-->musket
Sell Invention to Abu for WM, 6 gold and 1 gpt

Turn 0, 1250 AD:
Much MM to do. There is no reason for us to have all those scientists around. We are happy

enough and don't lose a turn on ToG.

Switch Canterbury to Forbidden Palace. A shame we don't already have one.

Switch a few builds from military to aqueducts.

We pay upkeep for spears and warriors. We should immediately upgrade or disband them. I'm

giong for upgrades, as I don't like to block infrastructure by unit building more than

needed.

With Bach's and Sistine's we have a great possibility to get independent from lux imports.

But only if we build cathedrals.

JERUSALEM HAS NO CATHEDRAL!!!!!
Guys, we're aiming to get 20k of culture there. The wonders alone aren't the key to that. We

need every cp we can get.

Turn 1, 1255 AD:
nothing special

Turn 2, 1260 AD:
nothing special

Turn 3, 1265 AD:
I see we are running lux at 10% when we don't need it.

IBT:
ToG in. Research Magnetism at 100%, due in 5.
Horses deal runs out. I can't see we need a new one right now.

Turn 4, 1270 AD:
Trade ToG with Isabella for Democracy, 39 gpt and 9 gp.
Trade ToG and 52 gp with Bismarck for Free Artistry.
Switch Jerusalem to Shake's, due in 9.
Give Abu Bakr Music Theory for World Map, 5 gpt and 19 gp.
Running +31 gpt with 100% science.

Turn 5, 1275 AD:
nothing special

Turn 6, 1280 AD:
nothing special

Turn 7, 1285 AD:
nothing special

Turn 8, 1290 AD:
nothing special

IBT:
Magnetism in. Research Steam at 100%, due in 9.

Turn 9, 1295 AD:
nothing special

Turn 10, 1300 AD:
While doing my final scan I spotted a new settling location.

DBear02_SettlingLocation.jpg

A settler is on its way from the far south east.

THE SAVE

A few hints:

1. Build several workers NOW. Add them to Jerusalem as soon as the Theater is finished. The production boost will get us ahead for those few industrial wonders. Build a Cathedral in Jerusalem next, then coal plant (hopefully) and a factory. Rail Jerusalem first, before starting a rail net.

2. Build even more workers for rail building. We are low on workers.

3. Keep trading as low as possible. We want the tech pace to be slow, which will mean more time for us to collect culture.

4. Build some cannons. The cavalry we have should easily suffice with a bit cannon support. Add some more muskets or later infantry. Do this in cities that already have most important culture buildings.

5. Culture press San Francisco.

6. Research straight to industrialisation, then ToE, then Rep Parts.
