Default unit choice when attacked by AI

Can anyone tell me why, when attacked by the AI, my unit stack puts up an Infantry to fight whatever's attacking me rather than one of the tanks I have in there? I see some curious choices being made and I think I lose a lot of units because "I" defend with the wrong unit.

Also:

When another ruler asks you to stop trading with someone, is there a way to quickly check what deals you have to see what you'd be giving up? Short of keeping a note pad handy with a tally that is.

Thanks...

Tanks get no defense bonuses, so your infantry is a better choice even though the tank has more strength. Defender's stack always offers up the best match to whatever unit is attacking.

As to your second question, not that I'm aware of, but damn have I wished there was a million times over.

As mentioned the game will choose the best defender for the situation.

The tile: Hill with a forest = +75% defensive bonus

Your units:

Infantry at full strength and no promotions= 20 + 15 (from hill and forest) = 35
Tank with no promotions = 28

Not always.

I've had City Raider III units wind up defending when the same type of unit in the same stack with Combat I would be a better choice. Not sure what's up with that.

It only chooses from odds as far as my experience goes, (a combat 1 soldier as likely to defend as a C1 CR3 soldier, even though you wanted the 1st to defend ;) )

Sure it wasn't hurt a bit or a different type of unit or something?

Your CR3 units probably had more health, or also has Combat 1, because they were so experienced. That is irritating when you have a Combat 1, CR3 unit that defends instead of a normal Combat 1 unit, though. It should be edited so that not only does the strongest defender defend, but if there is a tie in strength the one with the fewer promotions defends, so you wouldn't have to worry about that sort of thing. (Or having your medic unit killed accidentally....)

It seems to me that it chooses using the odds, but if they are tied uses the one with the most promotions. So in the above case it would use the C1 CR3 guy. I would much rather it use the best defender with the least promotions, since that is what he is there for.

At least it doesn't use units with lots of XP that haven't been promoted yet before units with promotions.
