Deity challengers

Because it's closer to its borders? ... (Seriously I need to check the mechanisms :))

Got it btw...
@team: any comments?

I like the "gift crappy city"-plan. AFAIK whether or not he'd accepts it depends on montys cultural influence there. I think obs should know more about this; I remember him doing it in an EE walktrought.

We would have to plant the city fairly close to his borders but it should be doable with a two axe escort. The downside is that too close to our borders will make close border tension later...

As I don't see how else we're going to get peace, I think it's the best option available.

If all the lurkers are commenting I cannot stay behind. I think you underestimate binary research. It's not just rounding. When you have 0 beakers, you will always get 1 added to your current tech. So if you play 8 turns at 0% and 2 at 100% you will win 0.8 beakers/turn compared to 20% research. Also, if you meet a workboat of another Civ you will get a 10% discount as they surely will know Masonry.

If you are thinking about deleting workers this is MM very much worth it. Lately, I am only researching techs I can completely get with 0% gold (BUG helps here).

@fjordan: I 100% agree... perhaps it was not done during some rounds but I will be doing it at least (but that's definately not our problem... who is more like a psycho named Monty). :)

@team: had a chat with Rusten today, we discussed the advantages of going for alpha first. Building beakers and not waiting for Monty do it notably. We still can tech currency for further improvements on our economy after that. What do you think?
Also, I plan to change the micro in Moscow as we can finish writing anyway in one turn: work the best tiles essentialy - stone for instance.
About the crappy city: the current settler is far away from the border. So perhaps it's better to settle around there (crab/deer looks profitable rather soon ) and whip a settler for 2 in St pet? He could then settle 2e 1 n of St Pet and be gifted to Monty for peace...

What do you think?

Cheers,
Raskolnikov

I would wait for the hof mod to be released... but might be a dual install if everybody wants to do it...

ras, you "have it" since sunday, do you need specific comments? If so please ask those specific questions and get this game going again ;)

Will play today... I waited for Dirk and Duckweed to comment, then get caught in parties last two days... sorry about that.

Are there other good reasons for Alpha next?
BTW, there's little usage of a wall in capital and Barrack in gold city.

What do you mean (sorry, my english is c..p)? You think there is a better tech for us?
I don't have the save here, what are your suggestions (instead of rax/walls)? :)

Cheers

By the time you finish Alpha, everyone will have it. Alpha is only considered under the situation of AW, isolated start, and commercial rich start when you can get it before everyone. We can get contact from other AIs after making peace with Monty. Even Monty can trade us Alpha. Isn't pottery give you immediate benefit atm?

An unfinished settler is better than a wall in capital.

Fair enough :). my bad for pottery, I thought we had it and missed it opening the save...
but then, we have yet to find another trading partner and have something over him. What could be our trade bait? Aesthetics?

PS: why didn't you reply earlier? Even if what I post can seem no-sense, the goal is to get the team to start discussing... :)

I checked: no unfinished settler anywhere... Moscow can do one in 4 turns without chops though. Can do that but the other cities are doomed to build walls if we don't want to increase unit maint. Perhaps a couple of axes and workers are better (we have enough axes to handle the stack we see though)?
Also what is the idea for the GG? We want to use it now to lower again unit maint, but how? They are 3 axes which can be upgraded to medic3 (C1 and xp >6)... my vote as we have already settled in Moscow and other cities have meh production...

Will play today, but I'd like to discuss this first :)

Cheers

Main benefit of alphabet is to produce research towards currency. The other alternative is aesthetics -> drama -> philosophy. I agree that pottery needs to come first and the latter research option (-> philosophy) makes the most sense,
