Deity challengers

Unless TMIT posts by the end of the day I will go ahead and take it.

Didn't get to look at the save yet (and no report ;)) -- so no comments right now.

Report time!

We bribe Brennus off the back of Monty for a modest price...

Note: I stopped whipping St Pet (NE) some turns ago... Should be worth it to let it grow so it can hire scientists again...

Duckweed, Dirk, Shyuhe, Ras -> waiting their turn again...

RRRaskolnikov, (lurker's comment)
>>as we'll lost our trades with AC this turn (dow).

Since AC had already peace w/ Monthy, you'd not have lost the trade routes. Intercontinental ones are good, though.
Unless Mansa gets some ninja culture victory you have got that now. Good job!

I feel getting sci-method this early was quite a mistake. Unless you want to intensionally cause your science to take a drop :P

It seems even more counter-productive that you would take Sci-Method just when timing yourself to capture the Parthenon city. A city which comes with a bunch of free GPPs each turn as well.

@bestsss: I forgot "otherwise"... the dow would have cut AC trade routes if no astro :)
@obselete: it was not timed... anyway, I think Communism and Biology bonuses will by far beat what the Parthenon could have given us, more so when you look at the number of scientists currently ran in the empire (very few)...

Cheers

Lurker's comment (sry)
My point is that without astro it would not have cut 'em. It takes both parties to be at war w/ the 3rd to cut the trade routes between them. You can try w/ the former save. Bribe Berneus out of the war, declare on Mothy. The trade routes remain intact. It's exactly the same case before the declaration of the war. You have routes to AC (through the Monthy's territory and without astronomy), AC is in war but that doesn't cut 'em. Also open borders do not affect the trade routes, either.

Regards

Oh ok, tx for the explanation!

edit: though the trade was still a good thing, motivated by the new TRs with Mansa :)

Cheers,
Ras

Communism -> steam power -> AL (corp from Montezuma)

Agree with taking 1-2 more cities and then turn to Brennus/AC.

Hammer to space after taking out Brennus (while keeping an eye on Mansa culture).

@Rusten: I like the tech path... Democraty is not so hot anymore, biology can wait after AL and Brennus beating imo... Physics could be usefull for airships and unlocking artillery but it depends of where Brennus stands when you finish Monty.

@Shyuhe: hopefully! :yumyum:

Seems like a pretty straightforward set :hammer:

Cheers

Take over turn 193 / 1330 AD.

1330 AD:
-Fur to Charlemagne for 13 gpt as he's still in HR.
-Move some cavalry south of Texcoco preparing to take the city.
-Press F5 and faint seeing <9 workers> --> make plans to add some.

1340 AD:
-Capture Texcoco and send a cavalry unit towards Calixtlahuaca.

Civ4ScreenShot0446-1.jpg

Poor city on a hill with guerilla longbows defending. I decide not to go after it and accept capitulation from Montezuma immediately. Montezuma agrees to give up Rome. :)

Civ4ScreenShot0447.jpg

-Corporation from Montezuma for Astronomy.

1350 AD: N/A

1360 AD:
-DoW on Brennus/AC. Decide to go after ACs cities and wait for Brennus to say hello with his SoD.

Civ4ScreenShot0449.jpg

1370 AD: Charlemagne has captured another American city.

1380 AD:
-Capture Antium.

1390 AD:
-Capture Arpinum.

1400 AD:
-Brennus says hello -- we reduce his SoD a little (and eventually Montezuma joins in).

Civ4ScreenShot0455.jpg

1410 AD (present):
-Finished communism. We should revolt to SP and perhaps a couple of other civics (1 swap = 1 turn anarchy while 2 and 3 = 2).

-Capture Ravenna

Civ4ScreenShot0456.jpg

I didn't move the units bordering Brennus.

TMIT -> UP!

You only had 3 units (and an axe) defending that city vs a SoD of 17 units? I am wondering how did the city not fall, bad rolls for the AI, or did it do something stupid like sat and bombarded while your cavalry was able to waltz back in time?

I was the one who attacked. If you look carefully you will see that the only tile Brennus controls next to the city does not have a road on it. He couldn't attack the city without warning me first. The excepton was mounted units, but one of the rifles are CG3 and the AI doesn't send big stacks of mounted units by themselves -- only stray units. There was no risk, my cossacks were always around (reinforcements).

Nice round Rusten :goodjob:

Did you monitor Mansa culture rate? His top cities are 15000/7000/7000 currently...
I agree with an immediate switch in SP, you even started the full scale workshopping! As for swicthing another civic, I am torn, could switch in nationhood or FS, but the gain doesn't seem big, but OR or FR has could have more uses. OR for the soon to build levees/factories/power plants?
More comments after job!

Roster duty:

Rusten -> had some cossacks fun
TMIT -> up against Brennus!
Duckweed -> on deck!

Cheers

FS is nearly useless without cottages. Nationhood is a cheap civic so I'd go with that. It'll also give us more fodder to use against Brennus and as military police.

Problem is that we want to do only a 3 civic switchs... 1) we want SP, 2) we want CS, 3)NH or OR? we can't switch both...

Also to be discussed: what to do with those 2 GGs :scan:

We can get Monty to research military science next and build academies. We'll need a few boats soon for Mansa.

I don't have a strong preference between NH or OR. I don't mind staying in theology since we're going to be warring a while longer anyways.

Sorry, I did in fact forget I was on the roster now (not active in SGs historically, strange for someone with my post count).

Anyway, I *can* play the turn set, probably some time tomorrow. If we're holding a tech lead on brennus I shouldn't have much trouble with him (though we're finishing rome first, right?). Going into every city every turn will feel a little strange, but hell it's only 10 or so turns of it X_X.

For NH vs OR ----> doesn't matter for diplo now (it's not like brennus is going to like us in the near future). NH is lower cost and allows us to offset the emancipation :mad: somewhat. We'd only favor OR if we're planning a major infrastructure investment in the near future, no?
