Deity please! #4

I played till 1AD

Spoiler :

In the beginning there was a lot of barbarians, but luckily I got some copper nearby so I raped 'em with axes.
It's my first serious deity game, so I think I'm doing ok.

Here is the map situation:

And tech:

I also have music which they don't have yet (I bulbed drama with GA).

Now I am just going to go for liberalism as fast as possible (peacefully..), but I'm a bit worried that Napoleon will be faster than me. Should I maybe bribe someone at war against him to slow him down? Any other suggestions?

@Noogai
Spoiler :
I'd bribe, although without save impossible to say much.

^^ Warning this one is definitely not spyware free.
They should fix file uploads ASAP or majority of civfanatics population will get sick of viruses.

Spoiler :

Nappy together with Alex already fighting Roosevelt. And looks like he will be first to lib. Noone wish to trade construction but noone got feudalism yet. Beeline construction and backstub him?

Spoiler :
effin' Nappy and Alex sandwich on Deity....treats!:lol:;)

Did I actually said I like this map?

Spoiler :
Niiiiiceee neighborhood. :shifty:
And actually only one spot for early solid city.

I should stop drinking...

Or I should go for old good axe rush!

Usually I'd avoid this on deity, but here it worked!

Got 5 cities from Nappy and signed peace.

Just in time.

Now it's time to abuse AI's stupidity:

Technologically not that good though.
Spoiler :

Need advise should I go construction/feudalism and try vassalize Alex, or try running for Lib (I sure will take these 2 cities from him in couple of turns).

Having marble accessible did not even try for wonders.

Spoiler :
I got in the game and got scared by the start. So many plains tiles and jungle all around. Not many good sites to expand into. The eastern cow/corn or rice is the only decent site I see. My warrior got owned by a barb warrior which really delayed my settler from getting to the spot. Got really discouraged from that point on.

We can scrap this map and start another one if that will be desired by most.

Ooh yip, this looks evil indeed.
A succesful Axe rush is nice, but catching up in techs and economy while another maniac spams out units (even if he suicides them, still annoying) is an uphill battle.
Looks like a map with a high difficulty rating.

Let's rather finish what we started. It's not cool to always go for easy basic start which always looks the same.
And it's just good thing if it's a bit challenging!

Mylene - I'd really love to see how you handle this one

What's so bad about this map?

Of course,
Spoiler :
Alex and Napoleon aren't the best news.
But
Spoiler :
they have Roosevelt and Sitting Bull (great!) to hate, so you might be able to have them leave you alone (for a while). With lots of great land, I think this should be winnable... would be far worse if you were locked in with Alex and Napoleon all on your own, with Roosevelt and some other hippie on a distant island.

I'm playing right now, and I guess I'm losing, because I always lose on Deity - but so far, it doesn't look like a horrible map to me...

Alex willing sign peace right now. I need make game breaking decision. Sign peace till Renaissance or keep fighting. Situation is far from been hopeless IMO. Having 10 cities by 150BC without crashing economy makes both options possible.

Let's keep fighting then! Waiting for more reports.

Spoiler :
The point is not only aggressive neighbors, but absence of good immediate spots to settle. We got only one. Rest will take long to develop. What's your situation? Keep it up!

After 20ish immortal successes, I finally decided to give diety a try. It's pretty brutal but I think I'm doing ok actually (should have concentrated a bit more though).

To 1AD:
Spoiler :

Settled 1SE. Basically I improved all the cap's specials, with so many nice tiles there was no need to whip. I made it to 9 cities (just) but missed out on a juicy barb city. Some cities are in less than optimal spots however. Delft (NE clams and corn had to be settled 1 off coast to beat ramses to that spot by 1 turn! And napoleon annoyingly settled right in my face and is threatening to steal my gems so I adjusted my dotmap to get more cultural support there.

After the rex I managed to crawl to Aesth (got glib but missed on parth) and trade that round a bit but the diplo situation limits trading. I should be first to currency in a few turns and get some techs out of that though. I feel like I'm in a winnable position with alex streaming units at rammy (they just keep coming and coming on diety!) and tying him down so I can have someone to pick on later. But I feel that I need a bit more direction with my research and overall economy.

OK so my first diety experience has taught me one thing. Early war decs will decide the game. Alex and Napoleon both went WHEOOHRN damn early and I was very lucky to dodge 2 bullets that would have spelled game over for me. (I spent 10 turns nervously tracking Alex's stack which seemed to move towards egypt one turn, then veer towards my lands the next. Finally he DOWed egypt and Nappy went for roosevelt. Lightning rod Sitting Bull managed to sit out the wars as well amazingly.

Diplo has been tough, only 2 religions, judaism and hinduism. Alex founded hindu, but nappy forced me into judaism. Then napoleon switched to hindu! So now i'm in hindu, trying to please the warmongerers and everyone's still at cautious.

Spoiler :
I'll try and post a report with screens tomorrow because I don't have time right now but I'll give a quick summary

AI tech is really slow this game for me. First AI got alpha in 350 BC when I got aesthetics pre 1000BC. Wasn't all bad though because nearby marble makes getting the wonders worth it. I look to be in a comfortable tech position and have only made 2 or 3 trades so far.

Luckly Ram, Roose, and SB are in the game to absorb Nap and Alex too. There is a lot of land for peaceful expansion even though some is in the jungle. I haven't backfilled all land yet but I'm working on it and I'm worried about Nap going Wheoohrn but I'm confident he will go for rosevelt.

I had my heart set on a HA rush so when I found there were no horses nearby I kinda lost my interest in this map and quit the game I was playing.

I said I'd play it though so I am trying to think of a way to play this position that would be fun. I hate doing the lib race thing, I'm just too bored of winning that way.

I'll think of something.

Mylene - I'd really love to see how you handle this one

I've seen too many spoilers now Lymo, wouldn't be a "real" game.
And my brother was brought to hospital yesterday with something more serious, my mind is not on playing atm.

Answer:
Spoiler :
You think so... ? Of course, there's lots of jungle, but with a gold capital with some riverside cottages and a financial leader, getting IW doesn't take too long. I think the map has actually quite many really nice city spots.

Ok, a bit of a report here.
Of course, I still think I'm losing, but I blame it on this being Deity, not that much on the map.

My plan:
Spoiler :

Basically, my hope this game was that Napoleon and Alex would be best friends, together attacking Sitting Bull again and again (to no effect) and maybe sometimes also taking a stab at Roosevelt.
Since Napoleon and Alex are my direct neighbours, I would of course have joined each and every war against SB without ever really contributing anything. I was hoping to keep them happy while I peacefully expand to the east and wait for the right moment to attack either Egypt or one of my "war allies".

What actually happened so far (500 BC), some screenshots....
.
.
.
.
Just realized I can't post screenshots atm, so I just uploaded some of them to imageshack http://img508.imageshack.us/g/civ4screenshot0158.jpg/ and the save to rapidshare http://rapidshare.com/files/451732180/Deity_4_BC-0500.CivBeyondSwordSave - feel free to take a look around.

So, no real report, just some comments on what happened:
Spoiler :
The first war was actually SB declaring on Roosevelt, Napoleon joined him.
Only religions on our continent are Hinduism, founded by Alex, and Judaism (Egypt). I accepted Alex' religion (and also gifted him the crappy city named "gift city" - I wanted t place it even worse, of course, but sadly I couldn't), which was enough to keep him happy. When Napoleon became a jew, Alex actually declared on him.

I have 6 nice cities and I hope to be getting to 8 peacefully; might also be able to conquer at least one of the eastern barb cities.

Bhuddism, Confuzianism and the Aesthetics WW's are all on a foreign continent.

Any suggestions on what to do next? What VC to go for?

Alrighty I played to 1AD

Spoiler :

settled on ph. Rexed out really fast but stopped abruptly at 7 cities around 500 BC or so iirc. Went aes>trade for alpha>lit etc. The uz

Grabbed music first while selling lit around right before it completed.

Now almost through CS. Got 2 academies up so not much bulbing gonna happen for me, but my tech rate should be pretty strong. I was building beakers a whole lot with all those metal sources around, and basically haven't whipped a single thing. Oh and I missed the gems to nappy d'oh!

Jewish lovefest, and Rosy and Ramsey are taking the heat for me. I can squeeze in at least two more cities, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Not sure I'm gonna play it out but it's been fun!

You're an awesome player awilder, i lurked around your Mansa Deity game (sorry for not posting), and it was good to see a player that is not scared by Rifles ;)
Everyone seems to tell me that as well "Cavs vs Rifles? forget it", well i have no problems usually the AI just doesn't defend good enough.
