Deity trashsystem game ...

Okay, made my turns. Here it is:

4000 BC - Thoughts and initial moves (first turn):
Spoiler :

Move warrior one south, reveal aditional sheep. Thus, settle on the wine. Idea: First I get access to the additional sheep in the south, providing more food than the other one to the west that is still in my BFC. Thus, I can work all the hill tiles with mines and can still grow (because enough food is accounted for). Plus, I usually do not research Monarchy early, so would not have any access to wine (=happy) for quite a while. Plus the grassland tiles are much better suited for running cottages. Otherwise I would have lost these grassland tiles, since I would probably not settle in the tundra. Plus I save a forest. ;) And better blocking to the south...

And finally: I will probably move the palace mid game to the north anyway, because down here (close to tundra), I will not be able to max out its maintenance reduction feature.

Summary of my game so far:
Spoiler :

Moved with my warrior around and popped three huts, only money, but all in all not bad (53, 46 and soemthing around 30).
Started with builing worker and teching mining-bw. With this awful start in the south (I mean with regard to blocking) I wanted to be able to chop early. Found copper in the BFC! So I thought I could drop the detour via archery for safety. Started barracks, changed to worker (2nd), chopped him. Surplus went into barracks. Finished that 4 turns later. Teched wheel and hooked up copper. Then churned out axemen (with some chopping). Next AH to improve capital. Then I found this awesome city site up north - lots of gems. So chopped settler, sent him up to my warrior. It became Utrecht, not really running yet, but I went for iron working to be able to improve this city quickly. It could be really great: two gems, 1 rice, on the river, and some banana, all in the BFC, IIRC.
Somewhere along the way Sitting Bull demanded sheep, gave it to avoid any negative sentiments. On the way up, my settler found Mycenian... Well, if I can take it, that will save me a settler. Chopped/built some macemen, went there to investigate further. And found it, unfortunately, still on 1. So, if I take it now, I will destroy it. :( Will wait for it to turn to 2. (Hopefully, not too long). Four axemen are standing ready to take it.
In the meantime built settler (regularly, no chopping this time). Saw Pacal advancing with a settler. Uff, raced with my settler to settle The Hague to block him off.

With regard to religions: good/bad news: Pacal is Hindu and Sitting Bull and Charles are Buddhists. So, no chance that I will adopt a religion, unless one of them is really more powerful. But hopefully they will start a war sometime soon.

Here is the map as of 1520 BC:
Spoiler :

Plans for the future:
Spoiler :

Build one more maceman to safeguard The Hague - yeah sorry I was gambling here - but Pacal's advance terrified me, so I did not want to wait any second longer. Then one more settler to close the remaining gap to Sitting Bull - don't know whether I need one more up north - west of Utrecht - culture expansion will probably not be fast enough.
Next tech: writing - perhaps I should have researched it before IW... Hope that Snaaty is right and AI doesn't go for Aesthetics early, because my next target after the last gap-filling is the Great Lib. There is enough wood to the south of my capital still left (not worth much, but better then nothing. ;) )

And here is the save:

I just used the paper clip icon then scroll throough my save games to find it. I don't know anything about how the download counter gets there.
Thanks ungy! As you see I found it! Appreciate your help.

Played to 1520 as well. I should have settled much more aggressively. I may get boxed in soon :(

Spoiler :

On the bright side, the capital is in a great spot. Settling on the wine was a great move as it boosted initial research, makes it a river city, and puts a lot of hills in the bfc.

I scouted around and got 4 huts. 58 gold, mysticism, a scout, and 32 gold.

I researched AH --> hunting --> archery when I didn't find horses nearby. I then later got mining --> BW (and found copper - doh!). I settled my second city near the horses as I didn't see bronze when I settled it. I have a 3rd in production to head further north towards the jungle. Pacal has settled a city right up near my capital though, which concerns me. I've had minimal scouting as my scout was eaten.

I have also finished researching writing and am on aesthetics now. I'm hoping to backfill alphabet. Oracle was built before stonehenge around 2400 BC or so (crazy). GW has also just been built. I haven't seen many barbs in my game and my archers fended off the few who came close.

I would suggest that we vote only on the games of the others, but not on our own.

@CellKu: Probably nothing will change about voting system. You can check it in Imperial Trash topic. Only thing that may change are points. I do not want the situation that 2 entries get the same amount of points. So prepare that f.e.:
1st) 7 pts
2nd) 2pts
3rd) 1 pt
Numbers could be wierd. I could write the code (15 minutes of work) that estimates most optimal voting which excludes (or rather minimalizes) such cases.
Another option is to give to someone a casting vote. The problem is that that person must not be the pretender to win. So every weak - another person could have a casting vote. There is no problem, but ... telling someone: "Could you point the winner this weak?" can delay voting pretty much. And it makes things worse, if someone has a break (no response). Any ideas?

I like that number system. :)
With regard to the situation with a tie: In that case we could also do a runoff poll between these two games. Or maybe not. :( I just remembered that we are six. So in that case we could have a tie again. If we were seven (or any other odd number), a runoff poll would work... What do you think could we invite another player to enter after this first round?

Or do you have somebody already in mind who would qualify as a third person tie-breaker? If so, is he/she experienced in deity games? I would imagine that you have to assess deity games a bit differently than games on lower levels.

We have 5 entries this week. Player who did not attach their saves, cannot vote. If you think it's stupid, tell me. I've just cloned Imperial Trash voting system. Belial did not response to my PM, so this week only 5 entries.
Rules:
a) You cannot vote for your own save
b) You vote for 3 entries - 1st best, 2nd and 3rd
c) Points are assigned as follows:
1st) 3 points
2nd) 2 points
3rd) 1 point

Let's not be paranoic and hope that no playoff will be needed.

Let the voting begin. PM me this week. Perhaps another week some other person will count the votes.

Important Note:
Sorry for dissinformation. I've just checked that players have time to attach their saves till Thursday. So we will wait for Belial. Perhaps he will attach his game.

In that time, I propose to start disscussion. You can check how disscussion looks like in Imperial Trash. Or you can wait for me who starts disscussion. Or perhaps we should start disscussion parralelly with playing next turnset.

I'd rather discussion before next turnset--I think we need all the brainpower we have here to plan this game.

I think the strongest plan for us would be to grab that jungle gems (there are 4!) ASAP, and beeline to great library. Grabbing those gems also secures the entire western coast for us to settle later.

I don't have access to CIV until Monday so I can't vote this time. I hope that doesn't mess up the voting  Also, we're not obligated to play the voted game anyways, right?

Giaur, I would be very grateful if you could provide a link to the rules for discussion in the imperial trash?

With regard to the discussion: do we only discuss the game in general or can/should we also comment on the moves of the others? I would be glad if we could do both. Discussing the game in general to aim for victory together and also commenting on individual game plays to help improve our playing skills. What do you think?

If you feel awkward about the second one, then let me just speak for myself: I would be very glad if you - if you feel like it - gave me some feedback on my game especially with an emphasis on where I might improve my playing skills. I found Giaur's comments in the Zara-thread (the one that led to this trashgame) to be very helpful.

I totally agree with you! It's not only the gems, but also health-related resources like rice and fish, and IIRC also banana. I am not sure, however, if we will get all 4 gems. Sitting Bull is moving quite some settlers around up there.

Moreover, it would be good to seal the borders to the east. At least in my game Pacal seemed to be pushing aggressively towards the west (= my potential territory).

CellKu

I think it's impossible to both secure the gems area and the east. We'd require oo many cities, we can't afford more than 4-5 early on. I say let Pacal have eastern terrains, they're not so good anyway when compared to the north

Does that mean you would like to get out?

Not at all. But deity games have a pretty big luck factor - AI's declaring war irrationally etc. So it may be useful to have multiple games playing in parallel to minimize those risk factors.

I agree on the north. The east (and south) isn't very good land. The north is much better, especially after IW.

@Betruger: If you refer to my post, I apologize for having produced a misunderstanding. I did not mean to expand to the east (there is partly desert and not that many interesting resources), just to close our borders by settling along the river going up north (to the gem sites). So that Pacal and others do not get behind our lines. In summary, I would also prefer to stick to our juicy western region. ;)

@skyuhe: Oh, I understand. I apologize... I think you are right with playing parallel games. So, we play the "common" game and our own (if it is not picked)? Should we then report about both?

@all: I just saw the rules of the imperial trash game. Should we also post a summary of our turns as in the imperial trash game (with how many cities we have, how much population, what techs were researched etc.)? What do you think?
