Okay, made my turns. Here it is:
4000 BC - Thoughts and initial moves (first turn):
Move warrior one south, reveal aditional sheep. Thus, settle on the wine. Idea: First I get access to the additional sheep in the south, providing more food than the other one to the west that is still in my BFC. Thus, I can work all the hill tiles with mines and can still grow (because enough food is accounted for). Plus, I usually do not research Monarchy early, so would not have any access to wine (=happy) for quite a while. Plus the grassland tiles are much better suited for running cottages. Otherwise I would have lost these grassland tiles, since I would probably not settle in the tundra. Plus I save a forest.
And better blocking to the south...
And finally: I will probably move the palace mid game to the north anyway, because down here (close to tundra), I will not be able to max out its maintenance reduction feature.
Summary of my game so far:
Moved with my warrior around and popped three huts, only money, but all in all not bad (53, 46 and soemthing around 30).
Started with builing worker and teching mining-bw. With this awful start in the south (I mean with regard to blocking) I wanted to be able to chop early. Found copper in the BFC! So I thought I could drop the detour via archery for safety. Started barracks, changed to worker (2nd), chopped him. Surplus went into barracks. Finished that 4 turns later. Teched wheel and hooked up copper. Then churned out axemen (with some chopping). Next AH to improve capital. Then I found this awesome city site up north - lots of gems. So chopped settler, sent him up to my warrior. It became Utrecht, not really running yet, but I went for iron working to be able to improve this city quickly. It could be really great: two gems, 1 rice, on the river, and some banana, all in the BFC, IIRC.
Somewhere along the way Sitting Bull demanded sheep, gave it to avoid any negative sentiments. On the way up, my settler found Mycenian... Well, if I can take it, that will save me a settler. Chopped/built some macemen, went there to investigate further. And found it, unfortunately, still on 1. So, if I take it now, I will destroy it.
Will wait for it to turn to 2. (Hopefully, not too long). Four axemen are standing ready to take it.
In the meantime built settler (regularly, no chopping this time). Saw Pacal advancing with a settler. Uff, raced with my settler to settle The Hague to block him off.
With regard to religions: good/bad news: Pacal is Hindu and Sitting Bull and Charles are Buddhists. So, no chance that I will adopt a religion, unless one of them is really more powerful. But hopefully they will start a war sometime soon.
Here is the map as of 1520 BC:
Plans for the future:
Build one more maceman to safeguard The Hague - yeah sorry I was gambling here - but Pacal's advance terrified me, so I did not want to wait any second longer. Then one more settler to close the remaining gap to Sitting Bull - don't know whether I need one more up north - west of Utrecht - culture expansion will probably not be fast enough.
Next tech: writing - perhaps I should have researched it before IW... Hope that Snaaty is right and AI doesn't go for Aesthetics early, because my next target after the last gap-filling is the Great Lib. There is enough wood to the south of my capital still left (not worth much, but better then nothing.
)
