Delay until August... but an opendev in April (probably)

As many people thought, they are delaying the launch until mid August.
They’ve just said on a twitch broadcast that they are planning to run an opendev (or 2) and have said that the first will be round the original launch date (April 22nd give or take)
Badly timed announcement (within a month of launch), but better a good game (with opendev feedback) than... CiVI (which I still find is a bit ‘don’t care about next turn’)
They’re working on many decent ideas.
Back to CiV Community Patch for a bit!

Important to note the choice of words of our Studio Head on the stream yesterday: We are aiming for an OpenDev around the original release date, but we cannot guarantee a specific date yet. We'll make a specific OpenDev announcement when we can confirm the details.
Thanks... but that’s why I used the word “probably” and the phrase “give or take”.
From a PR perspective it would be a good idea to do this- ideally earlier.
The studio has disappointed buyers with the announcement (reasons good, timing inept- too late. It’s good practice to manage expectations, and that hasn’t happened.) The social media silence while there was speculation that it would be delayed should not have happened.
An obvious way to counter this and assuage the disappointment- which hasn’t really been acknowledged- is to prioritise an OpenDev- work out now what you want from it, make sure the build can deliver this and run with it.
Realistically, the Lucy OpenDev was too late for an April launch. There was a lot good, but major issues uncovered, which you are working on, but couldn’t complete in 4 months.
April is 4 months before August. A delayed OpenDev after April runs the danger of repeating this mistake leading to a further delay.
Just sayin’! :)

One additional benefit of the delay is the game being released months after the ultimate end of civ6 development cycle, which should help its sales and marketing. The original release date would be right around the final big update of civ6, which would be quite suboptimal timing.

Also, thank God it is going to exist for some time (a year at least?) in the world lacking "alive" civ game, it should help sales as well.

Buy the game. It’s looking more likely that there will be one soon under the name Victor (rather than Lucy) according to a discussion on Reddit
