Hey guys... anyone out there know how to delete a saved game? I've hit every likely combo on the old keyboard, but can't delete a thing... there's nothing in the site or the 'saved games' that helps!
Yeah, I know it's likely to be one of those 'duh' things that's staring me in the face, but I still need it pointing out!

There is no in-game interface to delete games!

When in the Finder, drag and drop it into the trash bin.

Games are saved in:
Vanilla:
/Applications/Civilization III/Saves/ or
~/Applications/Civilization III/Saves/
Play the World:
~/Documents/Civilization 3 Play the World/Saves/
Conquest:
~/Documents/Civilization 3 Complete/Saves/

Seems very odd that there might be no facility at all to delete games.... that would be a hell of an oversight!
Does that mean that the 'saved games' is a bottomless pit, I wonder, that never fills up!?!
I'll try that 'drag and drop' and see if that works - thanks!

Oh, no, not bottomless, its as big as your free hard drive space allows.

While it would be nice if there was a delete option in the in-game interface, I don't think its a "hell of an oversight."

As far as I'm concerned, Civ3 is just an application and the saved games are files that you can create with it, not unlike Teksteditor, and the documents you can create with it.

There is very seldom any file delete facility within any Mac application. It would be a "hell of a variation of the Mac user interface" to provide one. Mac users look after their file systems using the Finder. That's what it's there for.

By the way, Command/Backspace works fine as a keyboard shortcut here for file delete in the Finder.

Well, I tried to get to those saved games through Finder, as you suggested, but just can't get to 'em..... Finder can't 'find' them. As far as it's concerned, they don't exist as saved files.
It's all very well to have oodles of room for heaps of saved games, but not if they've got similar names etc. I'm only had the game for a few weeks, and been saving here and there with a view to going back and deciding what top keep and delete and so forth, and now it seems as though I'm going to be stuck with 'em, unless one of guys can suggest another way of getting at those saved games/files...?

That's assuming that Finder can actually find 'em! Which mine can't!

Well, I take that back..... finder can find them - but only through a circuitous route through a certain photo file (!!!), and there they are - all the saved games..... except for the fact that they're all 'greyed' and nothing I do (for the moment, anyway) will bring them 'to the fore.' Can't drag 'em, can't click 'em......what a pain!

Well, hell, I take THAT back as well!..... Finder was playing up (some conflicts going on, which I resolved)- I got to those files, after all, and actually managed to delete them all!!!!!!!
Thanks for your help, guys... got there in the end!
Righto, now I'm off to knock a few Hittites on the head!
