Demographics & Reverse Lookups.

Is there a way to determine demographics of members, e.g., how many are registered from which nation, gender, etc. of the CFC registered population?

If not, there should be.... it would be interesting.

A reverse lookup would be nice too, like list all members from Sweden.


For Americans and Canadians, a sub-demographic of state would be nice, e.g., how many/who is from Texas.



PS, I'm not referring to the map with stick pins in it that was mentioned here while back.

Well, there is a country hack that let's members choose the country they are from from a drop down menu in the profile. It's like an optional profile field...

Ah I don't care to-much for the flags, but I could live with them.

But it would be nice if there was some feature that was like what starlifter described. And also stuff like average time a poster is on. Average postcount ect...

OK, TF you convinced me to go to the other BBS and take a look. I had not really noticed those flags before .

But actually, I was looking for some actual demographics, like:

USA: 12,849 Registered Users
Alabama 326
...
Wyoming 17

Other Countries:
...
England 638
...
Sweden 152
...


etc.


And the ability to click on a nation or state would then bring up those who have chosed that location in their profile pull-down menu.


Of course, people could lie. But they can lie about anything. I'd just like to be able to easily locate people, and see general demographics, since this has become not only a national site, but an international one as well.

I'd also be interested in demographics but I fear the bias due to lying and people who think they're funny would be too high.

i think it would be a great idea, but reastically a noticible percentage would lie for one reason or another. unless there was a foolproof way to determine.

a noticible percentage would lie for one reason or another. unless there was a foolproof way to determine.

It is a hack that adds a choice of country in the CP, and there is a little flag that is put next to your name if you make that selection. That's a "cute" hack, but not really what I had in mind.

Lying is irrelevant... people can (and some do) like about almost everything in their profile anyway.


@ TF: About the demographic option, it should be a pull down menu, not a user typed entry.... that avoids typos as well as ficticious locations, though naturally people could choose whatever country (and State, if US, Canada, or Australia).

Hope they have something like that the the world of BBS hacks.... it would be a nice (and actually useful) feature.

That's a nice, cutsie feature... however, it provides not demograpics in and of itself. Flags by a poster's name say nothing about the makeup of the 14,000+ CivFanatics .

So..... I'm hoping TF can find a decent demographics hack that will run with this BBS.
