Denmark and Norway are two completely seperate and individual countries. They have been for a good long time. They share viking ancestry, sure... but Norwegian Ski Infantry have never been an active unit in the Danish military, to the best of my knowledge. How did they slip that one past?

The Kingdom of Denmark represented both Norway and Denmark from like 1500-1800

So it fits pretty well.

And their UA is actually very good. You just need to know how to use it. Blitzkrieg, blitzkrieg, blitzkrieg. Can not underestimate them. Bombard with ships, land an artillery/cannon from the sea and fire on the same turn. Also amazing for scouting island maps. Scout an island, move to water. Next turn move onto a new island and explore same turn.

Plenty of uses for Denmark's ability. Berserkers were much better prior to GK though

Just like Denmark with Norwegian unit, so you have Sweden with Finnish unit. I do not want 2 other euro civs added into this game. TOO MANY already!!!

LOL! I won't argue with that one

No, forget that. Bluetooth ruled around 958-986. He's known for uniting the Norwegian and Danish peoples into a single kingdom.

Yeah, that makes sense I reckon. Wasn't familiar with Harald's history, before. And it's all 'alternative history', anyway, in CiV.

Edit: ok, in whatever timeframe during which he lived, he united both countries :)

I dont know much about Harald I admit only knew they were a conjoined kingdom officially for like 3 centuries - thanks for that :) learn something new each day

Cant comment on the Norwegian Denmark thing, but with Sweden and Hakkapeliittas it makes more sense beacause Hakkapeliittas were an important part in Swedish military in the 30 year long war.

EXACTLY the same on my country (that i actually found offensive): In Swedish civ there's:
1) Cities (around 35%) that are cities of Finland, even those modern cities that were found either when Finland was Autonomous Grand Duchy, or independent. For that matter, they did NOT include one of the Finland's AND Sweden's OLDEST cities like Viipuri /Vyborg (founded 1293ad) and was 95% Finnish speaking, 2% Swedish speaking, 2 percent German speaking and even 1% Russian speaking until Stalin managed finally to take it by astounding force in 1944 and it became 100% Russian.

2) Hakkapeliitta is Sweden's Unique Unit. Word Hakkapeliitta came to Germans etc by Finnish words "Hakkaa"(=hack) and "Päälle" (=on the foe. LOL) This I don't find that offensive, so you could relax about Norwegian Ski Infantry (it's pretty well described in Civilopedia).

It's extremely good - tempted by the Danish threads I just played a game as Harald. Didn't use the ability to full effect, but being able to start in the water, use 1 movement to get onto land and have 5 remaining (Naval Tradition + embarked move bonus for Denmark) to attack, set up artillery and fire - or to attack and then retreat back into the sea (made more effective since you can stack your now-wounded units with naval ships to protect them) is very strong. Even if you just use it to push inland, or with civilian units to quickly explore ruins, land and immediately settle a city or work a tile, spread religion/trade missions etc., it can be very effective.

I didn't seem to get the combat bonus attacking with Ski Infantry from a hill, though - maybe because I was attacking a city? The hill had a mine, so no forest.

Norwegian Ski Infantry fought for Denmark (Kingdom of Denmark-Norway) during the Napoleonic Wars. It makes a lot of sense if you know the history.

Well, that may be true for a few years (roughly 961-986), but the Norwegian Earl Haakon of Lade was the real ruler of Norway most of the time. (Haakon was killed in 995 by his own slave Kark.)

The Danish-Norwegian union started in 1380 and ended in 1814.

The Norwegian Ski Infantry is a cool UU, but as far as I know, the first specialized Norwegian ski infantry was the nazi-controlled SS-skijegerbataljon Norge, a part of SS-Gebirgs-Division «Nord» (SS Mountain Division North) during World War II.

(Of course, Norwegian soldiers did occasionally use ski in the winter as early as in the Viking age.)

Agrerd. That continent is tapped out.

Not realy. Europe has so much more to offer: Luxemburgian or Icelandic civilizations or Lichtenstain or Polish empires etc.

That seems like a bit of a stretch. If I saw any of those before Shaka made his fabled return, I'd be surprised.

"Denmark" is obviously really "Denmark-Norway" which was a pretty much a political and cultural unit from the Viking age up until the end of the Napoleonic wars when Sweden was "awarded" Norway as Sweden was part of the winning alliance (Denmark-Norway was part of an armed neutrality pact that broke the British blockades causing the British to burn down Copenhagen).

Sweden somewhat similarly, includes Finland.

You're partly right, but Norway was an independent nation until 1380 (formally until the Kalmar union of 1397):

List of Norwegian monarchs.
