... I feel your pain. I started trying to play (CIV4) tonight, but I'm every bit as confused as I was the first time I tried Civ3 and have NO idea what I'm doing. ...
I saw Whomps Civ4. Wow ... look & feel completely different ... Good luck to you gma.

Thanks, BB! I finally managed to get through a game on the easiest level. Then I tried Noble...equivalent to Regent on C3C. Within the first few turns the barbs killed 2 scouts, 2 warriors and an archer. I gave up, and maybe I'll try again tonight. :(

I'm not sure on why timing must be so exact, please elaborate Bugs. Only risk I see in this is that we gift Sheitcreek and Nuts make peace w TNT, still having cities left overseas. Maybe this is what you ment?
I don't know how far MIA is from MM but if we have it at that moment we could always ask/demand for Nuts TM before gifting, right?
I was thinking we don't want to gift them a city with say three or four left. Then they make peace and our gift doesn't do what we want it to do. Then again we have to be careful that some one like me, Slinger, Bede, Handy or Greebley isn't playing the turn for TNT, because they might lose all four cities in a single turn.

That is why the timing must be pretty well figured out. I'm not sure how to do it, but we need to think it through.

Or some one like me playing the turn for Nuts :D

We should tell them to concentrate their units in one or two cities, so they won't lose all of them in one turn.

BTW: Can we know how many cities they have at all?

Not unless they tell us. The diplo picture is a little complex right now because Kentharu (MIA) didn't understand the program when discussing it with Robi(Donut). He caught me on IM and I tried to explain it to him. :crazyeye:

It's either Donut trades HBR, maths and currency to them for masonry, map making and Lit or if they can't do it then we will trade masonry and republic for HBR, maths and currency. Obviously a MIA deal with Donut is better by leaving Donut in a despot.

Nuts do not answer MIA's proposals and it's peeing fe of a lot. He is very close to suggesting they tell Nuts to sod off. MIA are also very much against us doing the rep deal with Nuts for the same reason. They want Nuts out.
Nuts are waiting for us to say something about the rep+mas for HBR/math/currency-deal and we're waiting for them to do the MIA-deal instead. Kind of locked situation. I suggest we stay cool for a while to see what happens. We're not the ones in any kind of hurry here.
I'm not sure about maps, if they come w MM or Navi. If w MM we can demand Nuts map as part of a city gifting deal. If w Navi then we can't of course. We could maybe send a scouting warrior as discussed before. He could roam the neutral territory and do a city count on Doughnutia.

I wasn't able to open up Mapstat while playing. Even though I put in the password that it asked for it came up blank. Does anyone use Mapstat in Demogames?

I have never even tried in any of my pbem's. It's back to basics for me. I know Tubby uses Civassist II while playing but I don't have that utility.

How long before MIA gets MM? I see a building harbours agreement that will get us luxury way earlier than that jungle will be roaded. Harbours can be rushed, roads cannot. I suggest Notthefull switches to harour when we get MM and that MIA agrees to build one too. IIRC we have to road one more wine for trading and of course ask MIA if they have a spare lux.

CA2 will open during a MP game. You just have to enter the password. Since its only one turn I have never used it during the actual playing. I guess once we start warring then it might be useful with the combat calculator built in.

MIA gets MM in 7ish according to fe before the last turn was played so I expect to see it in about 6 turns now. After the gift us the first couple of techs, they'd be foolish to start a war with us because then we would have gained a bunch of techs at their expense and they would have nothing to show for it.

Oh and on the # of cities issue. WE can tell how many cities they have only if we have scouted that area. So right now according to CA2, TNT has more cities than MIA only due to the fact that we can see 2 TNT cities and one MIA. Does that make sense?

Let's talk about cash upgrades of our warriors. It may be time to bring the troops home for a new outfit shield included, have 'em run some wind sprints to get their stamina up and a new hairdo.

Another thing, I tried to cash upgrade the warrior in Dunderhead but was not able to because it's not a barracks city. We would have to move the lux to 40% if we move him over to Ignoramus for a couple turns. What do you guys think we should do? There's one in SKWTD and the Dunderhead one.

We only have 2 warriors in our lands? I may be a builder, but this is a little too much even for me :)

I'd rather wait until we build some GS for MP duty or get the rest of warriors home.

O/T: All you USAians, this is my 1776th post :D

yeah for 1776!!

Here are the locations of our warriors at the moment:
  1. one in Dunderhead (no barracks - get upgraded once a replacement is there)
  2. one in SKWTD (barracks in 25 - should go to Ignoramus to get upgraded)
  3. one escorting settler to spices (come home once replacement is there)
  4. one in EFfing Whomping Rower (dye city- no barracks - stay put)
  5. one near incense (should head back home)
  6. one in southern jungle (scouting - should go back home)

Ignoramus is the only city with barracks and has a pre-build going for a GS. Polecat is 9 turns from a barracks, Jesterton-20, SKWTD - 25. after the roads are done pretty soon, the forests around SKWTD could be chopped.

Let the guy down south continue to scout until most of the black is gone.

Most of the black is gone. Not much is left.

By the look of the last turns embassy tour the only threat to us is MIA. What I'm thinking is how do we make this game the most fun for both of us? I fear going overseas and taking out both TNT and Nuts will make the game progress both predictable and boring. We will both march side by side towards a space race and when one side feel they're lagging behind they will attack and then we'll fight until the end. An alternative would be to create a world with 2 super powers and 2 servants. If we (KISS & MIA) bring down TNT/Nuts to, say, 5 cities each we would still have some entertaining diplo to do without risking anything. We could make strange demands and ridiculous proposals, always threatning them with our firepower. If we're much stronger we don't have to worry about WW because we will not loose troops or cities and could stay in republic if we want to. If they're pi55ed of and will not make peace, so be it. We could have constant war going vs. Nuts/TNT and still make a peaceful run for SS vs. MIA. I would like that scenario because:
1. Diplo could be hillarious
2. War mongers would get their fun picking on the bad guys
3. The good guys would get a nice and clean run for the victory
4. All in all it is potentially more fun
This would mean we make a joint misson with MIA to go cripple TNT/Nuts, then we settle overseas and keep that as our "battlefield" where we always keep troops enough to puppet TNT/Nuts. MIA and KISS stay peaceful and keep our home continent as the venue for a space race.

Tubby's post about WW in the MIA-diplo thread reminded me about something. I was recently browsing the WW-thread over at the strategy articles forum, and I noticed a couple of people mentioning that WW wouldn't work in C3C PBEM. Anyone happen to know what's the truth behind that? Here's the URL: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=61628&page=4.
