Civ7 is 15% off on Steam summer sale

15% isn't nothing, but it has to be kept in mind that it is a discount on steam - bringing it's higher the price down to what you payed before (and still) at some other places (e.g. Amazon). Also, DLC aren't discounted (nor is upgrading from Standard to Deluxe)

Either way this is the moment a lot of people predicted would be when the audience finally arrives, which is why not much happened with any patches or anything else so far. Excited and hopeful to see the bump that comes from all the new players, and to read the reviews what they think about it.

Too little for me I think, as game is now. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Let’s see if I change that stand when holiday arrives.

It's good that it is discounted, but I will be waiting for a bigger discount and further improvements before jumping in. At over 700 NOK, Civ 7 is still priced as a premium full-priced game.

Looking at other fairly recent strategy games, Age of Wonders 4 is now 335 NOK at 40% off, Ara: History Untold is 300 NOK at 50% off. I have both of these, but am thinking about maybe picking up Galactic Civilizations 4, another fairly recent, still supported game, which is currently just 223 NOK, also at 50% off.

As I stated on another thread, Civ 7 with "Mostly Positive" reviews and about a 50% discount (which would be 415 NOK), would probably be a no-hesitation buy for me. Maybe even a 40% discount, bringing it down to 500 NOK...the same as the undiscounted price of Humankind. Yes, that's a somewhat older game at this point, and I personally have mixed feelings about it. Still, it is actively supported, and recent reviews are quite positive.

Curious to see to where this bumps the copies sold in the past 7 days. Maybe 10k?

Interestingly, as someone already noted above, this isn't really a discount compared to launch, if you didn't buy on Steam. I didn't buy my founder's edition at the grey market or similar, yet, I bought it with 20% off.

15% off a game that is already way overpriced may rope in a few, thou that does lead to the possiblity of even lower reviews .

Down another point at 35%

Many people seem to want Civ7 for peanuts which isn't going to happen, but each to their own. To me it's a great game.
I want at least the MAP EDITOR. Not negotiable.

HK Map editor is a complete mess, You could have got it for free with the Epic giveaway... I got it on Both Steam and Epic...
The problem with HK Map editor is the you need to "paint" the "continents" land masses by hand, no automatic generation tools of any sorts, not for resources, not for map generation...
it's completely manual and there is a debug tool that will always tell you there's something wrong (this continent has a land tile unconnected to the main land...) that break its use completely.
It's garbage. They know it, and they aren't fixing it.

There is various (-10 to +10) terrain height, but sea level, or water level, is always zero, so you can't build a "dead sea" or a "Titicaca lake" if you wanted to.
That is also a big problem to me..

They should add an "add river source" and then water should follow steeps naturally, instead when you "paint" rivers, and these goes down a gourge, instead of forming a lake, they will climb up the other
side...

Another possibility, if they want to bring in more sales, might be a free weekend. I can say for myself, I wouldn't pay this kind of money for a game with mostly negative reviews, unless I knew I would be in the minority who liked it. Since it is a Civ game and I am fairly neutral about things like the ages and civ switching, it is quite possible that I would be. I'm not spending over 700 NOK to figure that out though.

Hypothetically, this could bring in some more positive reviews as well, as the people buying it after the free weekend would presumably be people who tried it and liked it, as opposed to buying it blind and ending up disappointed.

I don't know if any other games have tried this, but what about a free week? Or four days?

Many people work on the weekend, and those that don't likely have responsibilities. A game like civ is going to take quite a few hours to decide if you like it or not, especially if you're new to the series or genre.

I think they still need to work out the some kinks first before trying to get many new players in to crap on it. For example, tile ownership not being able to be toggled between two cities (pre-improvement). I do play with mods but I suspect the UI is still a mess, or did they hit that up pretty good with the latest patch?

I would polish this thing up before I tried to draw a crowd again. 15% will draw in some fence sitters wanting to check it out with larger maps who have been following things on the side but are slightly timid to stepping in. Once Firaxis is confident in their product and have moved from doing damage control and back to content creation with DLC, then a free weekend would probably be a good idea.

Agree 15% sounds like enough for people who sort of like it and may give a positive review since it has bigger maps, mods, and customization.

It’s less likely to attract people who would be likely to hate some of the parts others still don’t like.

Yeah, I completely agree. I have 3.7k hours in Civ 5, 2.5k in Civ 6. It's not like I would be finished with the game in a week if they did something like this, and I ended up liking it.

Free holiday week would be good. Say week that ends in Christmas, by then

1. the base game will probably be in the best state the base game will be in (after that any be changes would be getting ready for an expansion)

2. The announced DLC would all be out, and they might be able to have a special holiday DLC

3. People who like it could get it for Christmas

4. A lot of people will be off enough time to finish a game
